Im Confused about an article rewrite rate. rewrite rate = $2 per 100 words. My dilemma I am having some of our works (owned by me) rewritten, by a rewriter, so I gave a new version of it. The original articles = 300 words, but the NEW needs to be a longer amount of words (lets say 500 words) - I wont go into why it needs to be longer. Lets say the rewriting rate is say $2 per 100 words, So if article is being rewrite from 300-> 300 words = $6. But as I am increasing words, from 300 ->500, do I have to work out the payment, considering the Extra 200 words? so I will NOT be paying for a 300 word rewrite.....but paying for 500 words (as they are increasing words) or in terms of payment, can this just be considered payment for a 300 word rewrite. (as 300 words is the original, 500 words is the new)
How you handle it is between you and the "writer." I personally won't take on rewrites (nor would I work at anything close to those rates). But if I did, you'd be charged the rewriting rate for 300 words and a writing rate for the extra 200. That's not rewriting -- it's creating additional content that didn't exist before.
Anytime you make an agreement to outsource writing you should clarify the terms in advance so both parties understand what to expect.
Yes, that's obvious. It's not really what the OP is asking though. They're asking about how a specific type of work would generally be billed (writing vs rewriting vs rewriting with new content added).
I'd probably charge my regular rate for a 500 word article because rewriting doesn't necessarily take less time or less effort than writing an article from scratch. Decide how much you're willing to pay and offer that to your potential writers. There are plenty of writers who are creating original content at $1.00 per 100 words and less, so you can may be able to offer the assignment at $6.00 per article. If no one's responding or if they're saying you're not charging enough increase the rate.
It would surely depend largely on the two effected parties only. no straight calculations would help in this case i think.
Are you expecting to make money from this content, eventually, somehow? If so then just pay 'em $10 or $20 and get on with something else more productive. Splitting hairs over a few pennies is a waste of your time. AC
First of all, you really need to agree about the payment in advance. The second, I don't think that someone can write a really good 500 words article with $6. I believe the price for an 500 words articles should be not less than $10.
I rarely do rewrites ... too boring ... but when I do I charge my regular rate for content creation. I will also reiterate what some other folks have said here ... at the rates you are paying you will not be getting great articles. In some cases (for example quick and dirty link building) quality does not matter, but if you actually want people to read these articles and hopefully persuade them to do something ... anything less than $10 will not get you a worthwhile article.
