Sign up and put some ads on to blogs of mine.
So of course I will be looking for more advice since I'm being a newbie on this.

Things that will interest me for now would be:
    * Placement of specif books relevant to page content.
    * drawing reports on page views and earnings.
    * payment procedure.

    What are your experiences?!

If you select products relevant to your sites content then Amazon affilaites can do quite well. I make a small amount of money each month - not a lot, but it all helps. My site is about loft conversions and my best seller is, unsurprisingly a book about loft conversions. I sell a book every other day.

In the UK there are some good affiliate programs to join, for example I have just added some pages about loft ladders its too early yet to see any results, but basically its no different to what you might do with Amazon. In this case I have written a page about loft ladders and tried to provide some usefull information for my readers - in this case I also wrote a page about using a loft for storage, which then links to loft ladders for access.

This is just my limited knowledge, but I hope it gives you an idea. I have heard that some people make decent money with this program.

I do this really strange thing when I am investigating an affiliate program. I read the help files so I know how everything works, and how I'll get paid. Then once I set up the links I click on them and follow the buying process to see if it's anything someone would actually do.

But that's just me, I like to get paid for my efforts.

That sounds good. I will have to see how the affiliate program works. I have a web site on building construction and I think I can sell similar DIY books there or even some books describing certain occupations/equipment techniques product information etc.

Thanks for the suggestion - How much would be "decent money" here.

There is just one thing that concerns me with setting up Amazon leads/adds on co.za based internet sites. And that is their mode of delivery here:

That's something I need to consider. And it means that only larger shipments will be feasible for local customers.

@Torsten: It's really sad that you can't monetize your SA traffic by using Amazon affiliate programme. I would suggest you look around for other good quality programmes or sign up with Google Adsense, you could make some decent earning through that as well.

    Good luck

    Thanks HHelen.
I will be able to monetize, but the delivery problems (to South Africa) will be a hinderance. The cost for sending a book is almost a good books price. Fortunately I do have visitors from other countries as well and I'm using adsense as well.

There is a local book seller as well, with whom I signed up - Just that I think they do have to improve on the adds they give.

Right now, I just have to figure out how to become an associate. The amazon site tells me I'm not, while I can place adds:eek:.
