$25 - Convert a Photo Into Vector Graphic

Discussion in 'Design Contests' started by csn123, Jan 29, 2010.

    Task

Use the image at http://www.cfc.com.au/CEA/images/news/45/BHL-3CXSM-H01-hi.jpg and draw a scalable vector graphic based upon it. The accuracy doesn't need to be that high. It just needs to look like the picture in the same shades of colour.

UPDATE: Please remove the JCB / 3CX branding before submitting. It can be found above the front bucket, on the roof, above the front wheel, and twice on the back arm

    Colours

The background should be transparent and the colours of the object should match the picture referenced.

    File Format and Size

Layered PSD and PNG please. The image needs to be scalable so I can enlarge or shrink it to suit my needs. As a guide, I'm looking for something in the region of 500px x 250px.

    Reward

$25 USD via PayPal, upon receipt of a request (PayPal > Request Money > Complete details and send) once the winner has been chosen.

    Deadline

Wednesday 3rd February at 1pm GMT.

    More Details

Please feel free to ask more questions. I will review each submission made here and respond with clear feedback.

    Wow, that was quick!

I like it but it's got too many lines all over it. I suspect that's because the original was a GIF. I've found a JPG you can feel free to try at http://www.cfc.com.au/CEA/images/news/45/BHL-3CXSM-H01-hi.jpg

I was hoping for something that looked less detailed but still recognisable.

Also, is that scalable? Could it be enlarged up to 2000px say without losing the detail?

On other thing could you remove the JCB branding?

Hello, fully scalable, transparent background, without any 'leftovers' and mess.
Provided formats: .png, .pdf, .psd, can add .ai if requested.
Here's a huge example after I made it bigger.

    That's brilliant.

    Couple of suggestions:

It has a slight grainy look rather than a truely glossy vector look. I suspect that's because the original was a GIF. I've found a JPG you can feel free to try at http://www.cfc.com.au/CEA/images/new...XSM-H01-hi.jpg

Also, could you remove the JCB branding?

Other than that, it looks great. Strong contender.

Thank you. Compared to the other submissions, it's very rough around the edges, especially towards the front.

Also, could you remove the JCB branding?

Branding removed, everything else as before, with some smoothing added, best as it can get I guess :) I added 2 smaller ones to show you that quality isn't lost during resizing.

    Kindest regards, Kav.

PS @ up, the branding is in several places on the pic :)

Thank you for this. It looks really good. I've updated the original brief to detail all the places the logo features.

The only problem I can see, not only with yours but with all submissions thus far is that they are all photo based rather than vector drawings. When they are scaled down to say 400px, they look just like photos. That could just be me though.

well you can always reduce colors and thus make it more non-real:
but I'd go for the realistic version - hence it's detailed and presents itself well.

Stop editing photos. Make real Vector Art. I will participate to this contest with real art, not like scams.

Not as good as previous entries.

I am hoping that someone will create a vector drawing rather than use a plugin to vectorize the image. Please... ;)

I'm with you. I'll do a real vector instead of a quick "live trace" or other program... Can't say it'll be amazing but I'll try...
