Godaddy stole my whois research!!

It's been a while I saw this: a couple of great domains that I found, where automaticly registered the time I went on my regestry. They all had the same (fake) date of registration.

But this time, I've got proof of this bulls***!!

Yesterday night, I was searching 3d domains available on Godaddy. And I found that 3dlife.org was available. I wanted it, but 1&1 was cheaper. Since 1and1 is really long to register It was still in process when I went to bed at midnight, but I feeled fine cuz 1and1 said also it was available when I registered 3dlife.org.
When I woke up this morning: 3DLIFE.org is allready registered...(thats what it said on my 1&1 account). I was mad!
So I whent and did a whois search to check out, who the hell could of register at the same time at me...

    This is my result:

    Domain Name: 3dlife.org

    Registrar: GoDaddy.com, Inc. (R91-LROR)
Status: CLIENT DELETE PROHIBITED, CLIENT RENEW PROHIBITED, CLIENT TRANSFER PROHIBITED, CLIENT UPDATE PROHIBITED, TRANSFER PROHIBITED, ADDPERIOD

    Expiration Date: 2011-01-29 09:47:30
    Creation Date: 2010-01-29 09:47:30
    Last Update Date: 2010-01-29 09:47:32

    ------------------------------------------------------------

Did you see the date & time?
    Bullshit!!
No way i'm doing a whois search anymore on Godaddy!!!

Just wait a few days, the domain might come back on the market.

Also, use who.is or domaintools.com to search for domains.

You should never search for domain availability on godaddy anyway.

Should I contact Godaddy or 1and1(where I attempted to register the domain) about this?

I use domize.com to search for domains. I never do it on Godaddy. I had a really important domain name sniped from me several years ago and never trusted their search box ever again.

Make sure you know the domain is available on sites like Domize first, then go to Godaddy and order it if you have to.

Domains are registered on the principle of first come - first ...
And (by the way) free interesting domains searched hundreds of people, not only you.
So - it you fault, not GoDaddy. Next time if you find something interesting, grab it NOW!

Indeed. I mean if a bookstore can't guarantee the last copy of a book you have
been searching for will still be there if you don't buy it on the spot, then why do
expect an available domain name to stay that way if not registered right there?

You'd be surprised how many people search domain names daily, buywiser. And
no, Go Daddy didn't steal your so-called research as you claim.

why would godaddy waste It's time on a simple domain? May be that domain was just dropped, so there were other people who were interested in it, when they recognized that It's available they reregistered it.

It's called domain sniffing. While Godaddy might not be the one doing it, there are others out there who are able to look at your queries and see what domains you've searched for in the resulting URL...then they register that domain before you get the chance to. There were some advertising programs that were being accused of this, too.

There was a time when you had a grace period of 3 days to return a domain you registered and it would only cost 99 cents.

A couple of registrars would register domain names that were searched, but not purchased. If the person came back to register the name, it would be taken. If not, after the grace period, they would return it.

So, it has happened in the past.
