Hi All - I am looking to start a new directory - PHP / MySQL Based.

What is the the best pre-made script to use?

I want to have options free / paid / recip for submission. Need it to be very SEO friendly as well.

Naturally the best features possible. The script definitely doesnt have to be free - its quality that I'm after.

Thanks in advance for you help :D

I'd say there's no the best one for everyone. It may be the best for me but may not the best one for you :)

So carefully learn what the features (and support & community) provided by each developer, and are your requirement can meet their offer.

You may try our script, indexu. The link is in my signature.

Also try phpLD(majority favorite. mine included. see sig :D), esyndicat(seems to be the second in favor)

I just bought a $25 license to phpLD and installation was a breeze. Very nice script.

I am also going to buy esyndicat however. They seem almost identical but they have very different licensing structures.

Thanks for your input so far, it is really appreciated- To me phpLD looks a bit messy in display - Can anyone provide some nice directory examples of where these scripts and others have been used?

nicecoder, your site was looking pretty nice - Seems to have some problems in IE though - http://www.indexu.net/business-economy/ - Check it out - Once the page fully loads seems to lose all content - In FireFox seems to load fine although it keeps trying to load something towards the end. Besides the major IE issue - I think that maybe the listings themselves are taking up 2 much space. Most pleb users are on 1024 x 768 - I am a fair bit higher but still get a max of 4 listings on my viewing page.

british guy - looking real nice - green style sheet link colour on blue background is a bit hard to read for me e.g. Sort by: Hits - But i think your layout is great - clean - fast - easy to read - i like the news feeds / sponsored listing area - All and all excellent job! I would include some numbers next to the categories to display the amount of listings - helps update the pages more also :) - I would dynamically generate a custom description tag and kill the keywords tag, both of which are repeated on all pages are a bit of an SEO naughty - Maybe some extra category generated SEO text on page for a little boost also - maybe just a dump on the description on the bottom.

Those belong to chris(mystikmedia) here on DP.

As far as the media directory goes:

I designed the iconMOD and the menu it uses.
    aspidov designed the inner pages.

    glad you like the directory.

also, check out www.dirten.com for some more designs for several of the scripts available to use.

Kool thanx an0n - Yeah - I like the icons for sure - nice work! - the inner pages i think need some layout improvements - everyones a critic :) - but that homepage on the multimedia directory looks great - very impressive. Description again is duplicated - really need to get a custom description going in for each page of the directory just base it on Algo - with category / sub category stuff - On http://www.activeweblinks.com - need to have a description period - thanks for your input

    no prob.

yea, activeweblinks was my very first go at phpld, smarty(the templating system these scripts use), mysql, and php.

I only had a two week crash course. Also that version is the dreaded 3.03. We are now on 3.06 which has loaaaads more features in terms of backend and SEO friendly options.

Definately head on over to the forums for phpld and in the pre-sales forum ask for demo access.

btw, the directory of mine to watch out for is www.directorydump.com
that phpld is loaded with a ton of extras for BOTH the admin and the end user/submitters.
