Hi all, If your main target keywords are: 'blue' and 'widget', and you have a non-keyword domain, e.g. abc.com(I am aware that a keyword only domain is only one SEO factor); to improve SERP's for a page, in a competitive niche for a new domain, is it better to: (1) Create an inner page with the target keywords in the name, e.g. abc.com/abc-widget.html, and build links to this page, using the keywords as anchor text? or (2) Target the home page, and build links to that, using the keywords as anchor text? (3) Doesn't matter, as long as you have high quality content on a page, with the target keywords. Thanks in advance.
3) I have hundreds of top10 inner pages to a large variety of keywords OTHER than domain keyword and as a result get visitors using ( january 2010 ) some 122'110 search strings finding some 7'834 Total Entry Pages ... thus all you need is power, motivation, creativity to create lots of quality content and have each and every single page fully SEOd for the precise topic of that page and of course a precise topic range of the entire site.
I would say, if the entire site is about blue widgets and only about blue widgets - you can build links for the home page. Otherwise, if the site covers (or is to cover) red widgets, orange widgets, or may be blue gadgets as well - you better build links for inner page instead. Though a natural linking supposes you should have both link types anyway.
I have a funny experience to share. My first blog is Rich in every sense. A few months back, I wrote a few blog posts about consipation. Those few blog posts were written with passion and keywords, since I was suffering from it at that time. I got a few backlinks to those blog posts, and had enjoyed constant flow of traffic from those desperate victims as well. That is why I get back links to each blog post, rather than home page.
My suggestion: Use a directory for subpage with keywords. This way you will get them on each subpage. Same for photo- So leave index in root, call directory for subpages \widgets-blue-pages and directory for photo \blue-widgets-photo. Also keywords will appear on your internal link.
In my own experiences, homepage or the domain name would have higher priority for ranking purpose. So, it the keywords you would target are really competitive, using your homepage would be the only choice. You would save many efforts. Have a nice day,
It depends, sometimes you really benefit from having inner page as most hit landing one, so the discussion makes sense in such, or similar, scenarios. Depends on situations, scenarios, how the site architecture is...There are not 2 cases fully alike.
It should be better to target one keyword per page include indexing page. Well your plan is also good. Target your home page with main keyword and create pages to target other pages.
