if you all are starting a new site about something you like, say for example, fishing.

how do you decide about what particular to write about?

Do you use a keyword suggestion tool, then write articles to fit that? (wouldnt this suggest what is the most popular sub topics for a particular main topic?)

    Any other ideas?

Im starting a new venture, and want to plan some direction for my content creation.

I get an idea about something, then check if any nice domains that include a keyword are available, buy the domain, then create an index page based upon the keyword in the domain name.

Sometimes, the last thing I do is check further and learn that nobody ever does a search for that keyword.
    :(

already have domain - lets just say its the "base keyword" so sticking to the fishing example, say the domain is "fishing.com"

so, site about fishing - we have this established.

    Where to go from there?

and swoop since you make that mistake too, perhps you should follow this thread too :)

I plan to follow this "fishing.com" thread, in hopes that I will "catch" some new ideas that will let me "hook" some visitors and increase my "net" worth. :D

Having the domain fishing.com, I would go to some other fishing sites and see what they are about. Hottest new lures? Tips to catch more fish? Favorite fishing spots? Funniest fishing story? Sentimental story of how dad taught me to fish? Boats and motors?

On each page look at the Google ads and try to figure out how costly they are to the advertisers.

Do you have other sites that you can cross link to? For example, if you have a travel site you could link favorite fishing spots to it.

Plenty of work to be done!

Yes, I was just continuing with your "fishing.com" example. Maybe someone else reading this can "school" us on how they decide what to write about. :)

Surely if it's something that you like, then you know the topic well so you should have a million things to write about it, no? By "something you like", do you mean you like it because it is a high paying keyword but you don't know the topic?

Yes - on the particular tiopic, I could litermally write a million articles - my question is what strategy do you use in planning content - what will you write first about? (assuming a new site)
