Embedding Amazon affiliate code into linked images

I am an Amazon affiliate, and am actually experiencing some very favorable sales.

I currently click the "link to this page" for items I want to feature or highlight. I then use the HTML code to paste whatever item into my site. The problem is, once a link is up for a while, some times (for whatever reason) the item disappears. They then display this generic Amazon ad.

I want to create custom images for these products, and link them back to Amazon with my affiliate code in the link. I believe this is allowed by Amazon, but want to be sure and see if anyone out there is having success doing this.

    Thanks guys.

How would your custom image have anything to do with the product disappearing or not? The html code contains this information by linking to the page, not the image.

Not clear on what you are really asking.

[IMG] The image on the right. This is what displays... after the product has expired or changed. As an example, they sell out of clothing item I am advertising. So this filler image appears on my sites.

So you want a picture of, let's say a shirt, and if amazon sells out or stops selling it, you still want the picture of the shirt to be there?

I hope I am understanding this correctly. If you want to do that simply download a picture of the shirt and add it to your page with an HTML editor and then just link the picture directly to amazon.

This is actually what I do. It works well if your site is not an "Amazon" site so you can link the picture to what ever site you want.

For instance, if amazon stops selling a digital camera but I have built a site around it and I am ranking high in google for the camera name and Amazon stops selling it, I can find another store with an affiliate program and just point the link to it.

the con is that there is a lot of maintenance involved. you need to constantly keep track of the inventory you are promoting so that you are not sending visitors to a dead link.

There are pros and cons to what I think that you want to do.

Hope that answered your question. If not PM me and I will see if I can help.

Try refreshing the page. Sometimes the image will load right back.
    Happens to me.

If there are third party sellers selling the same product, Amazon won't delist the item. They will say it's sold out, but it's still there, with all the data and images.

This is actually exactly what I want to. I want to use an image editor to capture the current image. Design my own image that looks like it has a button to buy the product. This way the image will link to Amazon with my affiliate number.

The hope is, that regardless of whether or not the page (or product) it links to works, it will still take the person to Amazon with my affiliate referral attached to the visitor. I understand if the page is not there, I will lose some conversions... but still, just having them on Amazon is better than not. Thank you guys for your continued help, it is appreciated.
