Exhibition highlights 1,000 years of science from the Muslim world

They gave us our number system; built the first university; left us with the names for many of the stars we see at night; formalised the use of zero in mathematics; and provided us with a huge array of words, from giraffe to crimson and from traffic to cheque. For a millennium they chronicled the work of the ancient Greeks, Indians and Chinese while developing their own expertise in surgery, water and wind power, optics, agriculture and other subjects. While Europe shivered in the dark ages, the Arab world kept scholarship alive. Hence the importance of 1001 Inventions, the Science Museum's homage to Muslim science – which turns out to be surprisingly enjoyable.

What I don't get is why they call it Muslim science instead of Arab science.

I would really like to see the exhibition. Those nostalgic days when Islam was definitely the world's no. 1 culture are pretty cool.

True. 1700 is the start of the "deterioration" which I mentioned several times before. So there is a natural continuation to this paragraph, which the "multi-culti" British "politically correctness" is not allowed to introduce. But this is why I'm here for ;)

Because Islamic empire included many countries and nationalities, it wasn't only Arabs. :)

Truth: The Ottoman Empire of yesteryear is not today's Islamic caliphates.

I have always wanted to study the ancient Middle Eastern scientific discoveries and what happened to that culture that is so rich and vibrant.

Muslims invented medical techniques that the barbaric Europeans adopted, as well as weaponry, foods, and so on...The only thing I could see that might have been the issue is that Islam seems like a very elitist religion that poses as one of the people.

You see incredible palaces next to unimaginable poverty, so the knowledge is there...It's just these people have no respect for "low" human life, even if these lowlifes are of the same faith and give these elites their power...

:\ People need to read up on history more

The Ottomans kept Science alive while the Christians burned the non-believers.

However, it seems the roles have switched ever more. Christians deny science, the former Ottoman territories are burning their knowledge with extremism, and the 6% of Atheists who aren't Chinese are holding on to as much data as they can.

When social order breaks down, the intellectuals are the first to die.

I've been repeating that to myself the past few weeks, times are getting a bit frightening for those who have an IQ beyond that of a rock.

Intellectual: Man who is well learned, and will make sure that those around them know it.

Wise man: Intellectual that knows when to keep his head down and mouth shut.

It's a shame how a once great civilisation has been reduced to dust bowls of poverty and injustice. The downward spiral that has been seen in islamic nations shows exactly how corrosive this particular little cult is. People who once gave us advances in mathematics and astronomy are now known as savages who hang gays and beat women in the street, contributing nothing to the advancement of mankind, it's tragic.
