When creating a new thread in the following cat:
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=122

You should change the text in the "are you sure this is the best place to post this check box area"
    To:

"I believe SITE & SERVER ADMINISTRATION is the BEST section for this topic"

Site/Server Admin is filled with tons of crap that should be posted in the BST/WebHosting or Freebies area.

I think that the wording in the new topic form may be one of the key reasons so many people are posting there.

Also, someone should actually moderate that forum and move those posts on a regular basis too... Its really cluttered with crap that does not belong there.

Why would you want people to confirm Site & Server Administration is the best area when you aren't creating a new thread in that area? That's like making people confirm the Google forum is the best section in order to post in the AdSense forum. Makes no sense.

Because the problem is people that should really be posting in BST / Web Hosting are posting sales related questions or price comparisons in the Site & Server Admin area. I just assumed that was intended for more technical discussion, not people looking for offers.

The confirmation process seems to indicate otherwise. Maybe I'm missing something?

Okay, for sake of simplicity, area A = Site & Server Admin, area B = Web Hosting (sub-section of area A), area C = B/S/T -> Services -> Web Hosting.

So you honestly think that putting a different message on area B is going to prevent someone from posting in area A, when it should have gone in area C? Interesting logic, considering the section you are suggesting to change isn't where the topic is being incorrectly placed in, nor is it the correct place to put it.

    Unless I'm not understanding something?

No, did not say it would stop anyone. What I am trying to do understand the logic in posting there.

The only possible reason has to be the fact that the new post form simply defies logic itself.

Maybe I am missing something but when you click "New Post" in the site/server admin category/sub forum it says nothing about it being for "Site & Server Administration posts.

The point here is that when someone creates a new post in that sub it seems to contradict the description of the sub cat. Not completely, but just enough where posters when prompted with the "are you sure you posting in the right place" they do not catch what may be a mistake.

Look, I could care less frankly. I just listed this as a suggestion that might make it easier given the larger number of posts that do not belong there and the obvious lack of policing it.

In other words, I'll just stop reporting posters that post there and respond as if the post belongs there, assuming that is acceptable.

Are you sure you are in the right section? It shows properly for me...

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=18

Also, what page exactly did you get the copy/paste/quote from your first post? I'm not seeing that anywhere. That looks like a copy/paste of a breadcrumb navigation with the description coming from somewhere else...

To be honest, I'm just really confused about where exactly you are talking about... Web Hosting sub-section or Site/Server Admin section? And where are you seeing the web hosting forum description in the Site/Server Admin section exactly?

Even going back to re-reading your first post, I still read it as you wanting to change the forum description of the Web Hosting section to be the same as the Site/Server Admin section (even your link points to the Web Hosting section).

I think this might explain it a little better. I think I understand what might sound confusing or illogical about the suggestion.

I realize if you are in the Sub Cat "Site & Server Administration" here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=18

That it does display the appropriate check box/question
However, many people, myself included that enter that area do so from here:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=122

And while that leads to the "site/server admin" sub cat, its not at the top level of that sub cat. So posting a new topic from there asks the following:
Hopefully this makes more sense. Maybe I just have an old link saved in my subscription.

If you create a new thread from a sub-category, the system assumes you want to create a thread in that sub-category. There's no way around that. The message asking you to confirm you are putting it in the right area is a reminder of that.

Understood. Sorry for the original confusion. I really did not realize where I was at in the forum hierarchy since I've got that sub cat link saved in my subscriptions in my CP. That said, I never really noticed moving up a level would lead to this.

    Thanks!
