I am creating a website for free webmaster tools and i need to know this:
is it better to put all tools files in one folder i.e www.mysite.com/webmaster_tools/pagerank.html or www.mysite.com/pagerank.html
which is the best for seo and i am planning to make users to login to use all tools freely. So may add login area in near future. Please help

 

It depends on the keyphrase you select to optimize on.

For example, if you have a page that you want to optimize on the phrase "pagerank" (poor choice BTW), the the URL www.mysite.com/pagerank.html is better than the URL www.mysite.com/webmaster_tools/pagerank.html becuase of keyword proximity.

I am not using that keyword "I have used it just for an example" can you tell me what do you mean by "BTW"

BTW mean "by the way".

Your selected key prahse for each page should be as close to the beginning of the URL as possible.

Therefore, if "keyphrase" is the key phrase you are optimizing a page for then..

www.sample.com/keyphrase

Is better than ....

www.sample.com/category/keyphase

Because it is close to the beginning of the URL.

is it that same with php files because I am using php files so it will be like this: www.mysite.com/keyphrase.php or is it better to create a folder for that keyphrase i.e www.mysite.com/keyphrase/index.php or www.mysite.com/keyphrase/keyphrase.php

I recommend making it

www.mysite.com/keyphrase/

Which should be the same as

www.mysite.com/keyphrase/index.php

Except that you don't have to explicitly type in the index.php part.

If you go to www.mysite.com/keyphrase/ and it doesn't display the information in www.mysite.com/keyphrase/index.php, then you should have that fixed.

 

thanks for that. I know, I can use the 301 redirect feature, is this the best way or is there are any other javascript or .htaccess code etc to achieve this??

The first mistake you may have made is using underscores instead of hyphens!
