Spelling & Grammar

Not to be a spelling nazi, but I've noticed lately that general spelling and grammar here has been pretty bad. I'm mostly talking about the use of shorthand (ur, thx and whatnot) - I think since we're all webmasters and have a fairly good grasp on the language, it wouldn't hurt to take that extra split second to add the y and o to ur and make things just that little bit easier to read.

Maybe I'm just being too picky. :p

I agree with this. The "cool" short form language used by kids these days is not cool and not professional at all.

How many seconds does it save?

I use the spell checker in Google toolbar to get rid of typos, its handy and efficient.

There is an old saying, our manners do not make us, they mearly reveal us. I think the same can be said of our communication skills. Now if only I could spell. :)

I hate short form of language. I always take help of wordweb dictionary to check spellings. If Iam not sure about a particular word spelling I will go for substitute words. I well check each and every word for its correctness before I submit.

    I entirely agree.

And even if we forget to spell-check beforehand, the 'edit' button is always handy!

I agree too. One thing that really gets to me is out of tense/bad grammer thread titles. If any part of your posts should ever be double checked for errors its titles. Please can we make them correct in future?

Argh!! I can't stand it when people "typ lyke dis." It's one of my largest pet peeves, and I can't help but cringe when I see any form of internet shorthand. It really doesn't take long to type correctly. I wish more people would learn that.

Perfectly said Sumit...although I belong to this generation..I leave sms only for sms and prefer to use good ol english...
Do not use a spell checker as such...only my mind gives it a skim at the end of the post:)

Agreed, our generation is pathetic when it comes to spelling and grammar. I don't even use shorthand in text messages (predictive text is much easier)!

People who can't be bothered to type properly should have their computer confiscated. Especially when they're doing business.

    Ignore me. I'm a pedant.

Dictionary.com is the single greatest website ever created. Correctly employed, anybody can sound intelligent.

For my part, I swallowed a dictionary when I was five so I don't often need it :)
