Hello, I just noticed that Microsoft created an Answering system like Google and Yahoo. Do you think they will be successful? I haven't seen anything they made first so far
I only see 4 sections in the answers page. Window, microsoft office, windows live and protect your pc. I think they dont have section for general questions
What area of the internet won't Microsoft try breaking into? They have a copy of almost every popular web application and software, why can't they just stick to OS and software development
Thanks for the share. I do think more of these types of answer sites are going to continue to come up-I can see each search engine giving a boost to their own results...to me that says to keep up the work on Yahoo Answers since it is the best in its breed while focusing a good percentage of time on Google's version.
They've been at the internet and search technology for a loooooooooong time now. Adding an answers section their search engine doesn't really make it fundamentally different, it just provides a complementary service to an existing offer. Doesn't it? -- begin rant here -- Besides, it makes sense to their strategy: make substandard OS, and in spite of its flaws everyone buys it because it's marketed well (try buying a PC without it ...). It dominates and becomes a defacto standard. Do the same thing with browsers, then use your market share to impose your own (flawed) standards and force out the competition. In spite of their infinitely inferior product, it worked (to a certain degree). Do the same thing with search engines, and you have EVERYTHING - the OS, the software and the databases they feed off. Welcome to MS land. Where the answer to "What is god?" is "MS". -- end rant --
Microsoft won't be able to touch Yahoo Answers. They are too focused on themselves. Yahoo Answers is about people helping people find out information about whatever may be on their minds at the time. Microsoft is only worried about helping people find out more information about Microsoft products. Go figure.
In a way they are sticking to supporting their OS and other software by having this website up. As it answers questions specifically about Microsoft and its operating system/software's. It is an added or extra support layer which people can go to if they want answers or help with any problems they come across. Perhaps people are looking at this wrongly as it has "answers" which is similar or the same as Yahoo Answers? If it was named help.microsoft.com you wouldn't get people posting negatively about it. - Though even then I doubt that.
