Republican Scott Brown Wins Kennedy Senate Seat Massachusetts

Republican Scott Brown has defeated Democrat Martha Coakley and becomes the 41st vote in the US Senate.

This really says something. A Republican hasn't held the Kennedy seat since 1952.

The Democrats clearly lost this election due to their failure to stick to their values. They need to do whatever it takes to get this health care bill through ASAP!

What values? Tax hikes? Anti-job bills? New stupid regulations? 1984 type of stuff? I'll take a pass.

This bill? The one that all the special interests wrote? Wow. Who signs your paychecks? The state is useless

According to MSNBC, the voters voted for Change in 2008 and have yet to see it. That seems like a pretty clear message, do whatever it takes to pass health care!

So jam socialism down our throats? It worked so well in the Soviet Union. The people just voted for change. A change in the opposite direction! #1 we need tort reform and allow insurance companies to compete with eachother to bring down costs. The government just knows how to ration care, that's why the elderly should be fearful if govt runs healthcare while they are bankrupt. That means they get denied for even the most basic procedures.

Did you know that medicare denies more people every year than private insurance companies? yup

Well, I think that Pelosi got the message the way I phrased it. She has flat out said that they are going to get this health care bill done, and pronto.

Pelosi is just a DC hack. She's there to push what the special interests want her to do. It sounds like she wants to commit political suicide. I think Cindy Sheehan was a better candidate.

Scurrilous accusations. Even Pelosi's biggest detractors have to admit she has the power to get her party moving within the house. I have no doubt in her ability to get this thing through the house within the next week. She is a very capable political operative.

Brown isn't anything special either, but I'll take him over Coakley any day. More than his candidacy, the prospect of finally killing this health care bill is awesome. The 2010 elections are going to really be something!

I find it ironic that the man who dreamed and schemed of universal health care for 40 years gave his seat to the 41st vote.

There may yet be hope for America.

Since I live here in Boston, I can tell you this: Scott Brown is something special. You need to be special to become a Republican Senator for Massachusetts.

BTW, shouldn't this thread be re-titled PROOF THE GOD EXISTS - A REPUBLICAN SENATOR FROM MASSACHUSETTS!!!

Old Teddy is rolling over in his grave right now. Then again, he is probably in hell with Saddam Hussein and Hitler taking turns sodomizing him for what he did in Chappaquiddick .

Where's all the token DP Dems? Why haven't they replied to this thread yet saying that Obama willed this to happen because he is the supreme being and has an evil plan?

And yes, I find it absolutely hilarious that Teddy spent so much time on his crappy healthcare and now he's been replaced by someone who vows to take it all down!

Ahhhh, it's a crazy, crazy world we live in!

This Massachusetts Senator is going to take down Obamacare?

I'll believe it when I see it.

It's not about Obamacare but out-of-control spending. The $787 Billion stimulus was a failure and the US is on target to double the national debt in 5 years. Should Obamacare pass the next agenda will be a new stimulus and cap&trade.

Jimmy Carter was the last hope President. He had a Democratic majority in both the House and Senate. Within a few years the inflation was was 20%+

Bill Clinton tried to pass Hillarycare back in 1993 and the result was a Republican Revolution. Clinton saw the writing on the wall. Started listening to Dick Morris and using Republican ideas.

I don't beleive that Obama and Pelosi will follow Bill Clinton and move to the center-right.

Btw, forget about Harry Reid. He will be out of office in 2010.

The occurrence is special no doubt. The candidate though, isn't. He is still a machine politician in many ways and from what he has done so far, he isn't anything special ideologically in my eyes.
Have you been watching the news lately? Without the 60 votes, they are going to have to try to vote the Senate version in the House where many Democrats have already said they won't support it. Either that, or they will have to change the bill, probably significantly, and try to pass a new version. This can certainly kill Obamacare.

It's hard to spin this as good news but I'll try:

It makes the "60th vote" a Republican instead of a Democrat. In other words it will be the Republicans trying to get every vote together every time, instead of the Democrats. Perhaps even better, it will make the Democrats realize that playing this "60 vote" game is ridiculous in the first place. Bush never needed 60 votes to get anything done. Why does Obama? Push reform through with 50 votes. Kill the filibuster if need be, it's clearly in violation of the spirit of democracy when abused the way the Republicans abuse it.

Brown will become the most liberal Republican in the Senate and he'll have to get re-elected in two years in a much more difficult situation (Obama will likely have strong coat tails in 2012 in Mass.) in one of the most liberal states in the country.

I think Brown winning is because of three major reasons:

#1 Brown was a good candidate and ran a good campaign.
#2 Coakley was a bad candidate who ran an awful campaign.
#3 A lack of enthusiasm from the left due to a lack of movement on the progressive agenda.

It would be the exact wrong message for Obama and the rest of the Democratic leadership to take from this that they should become even bigger wusses. This should be a wake-up call. Get things done or we (progressives) will not campaign for you, will not donate money to you, and may not even bother to vote for you.

I do recall that Fuhrer Bush was able to accomplish a ton of "whatever the hell he wanted" with a much smaller majority than Obama has been blessed with.

Democrats need to grow some fangs, I am a Republican and are begging those across the aisle to grow a pair and perform the duty they had been elected to do.

Brown taking the senate seat of Massachusetts, arrogantly named Kennedy's seat, is a massive upheaval in the North East.

I hope he does the people there a good service, and I hope Coakley and her campaign learns something dear about connecting with her constituents.
