Google has a patent for PageRank, the most efficient link analysis algorithm up to date. That gave them many visitors since it was beating Altavista, Yahoo, and others at a time. So they could generate more revenue off Adwords. That allowed them to get resources to hire the best developers and engineers to improve the search engine. So it is even better now. Now, they discovered new ways of generating revenue such as the Smartphone that came out. I personally like Google because it is simplistic and efficient. I also focus on it because our clients use it.
Well like the guy above is saying it just keeps getting better and better. Google also seems to index and or crawl websites a little faster than other search engines, they normally follow suit after Google does. Another good point he did make is that many people use Google as their main search engine so for anyone who uses websites to promote anything will want to focus on Google more than anything else, for the same reason I said they crawl and index things faster once you got Google indexing your site soon other search engines will as well.
Don't forget about Google Chrome. Guess what search engine this new free top of the line browser will encourage people to use.
O ya sorry about that I completely forgot about it. I honestly love google chrome though especially since they came out with extensions for more SEO things.
imo it has to do with providing the best, unaltered search results. At least this is what started them I guess. Now there the 8000 lb gorilla.
Google becomes popular because the results when you do searching is indeed something that other engine could not surpass. I happen to not like Google when it wasnt that famous before but after it helps me a lot in my researching then I was convinced that Google is the best engine..So I think what makes it popular is through word of mouth because people seems to like quality of services the Google give them
Because of their relevant search results, and most of all they captured the market at the right time and never let it go, now its almost like a brand when people don't find what they are looking for and say "we gotta Google it"
Google has the largest search distribution, the largest ad network, and by far the most efficient search ad auction. They have aggressively extended their brand and amazing search distribution network through partnerships with small web publishers, traditional media companies, portals like AOL, computer and other hardware manufacturers such as Dell, and popular web browsers such as Firefox and Opera.
I wonder what initially made it so popular..but once your as popular as they are now..its a brand..and people will follow suit just like any other brand..
