What do you already know about or are passionate about?

Do some keyword research on those subjects first, (will save you research time and having to motivate yourself to write about stuff you care little about) and find subjects with some decent traffic.

From there evaluate the competitiveness of the niche olnine. Search in Google for your keywords, check the age, back links and PR of the top results - this will give you an idea of the work involved to compete.

Find products/programs that will repay you most with high commissions, long cookie duration, return purchases etc etc...

Make you blog as targeted as possible, so don't try and sell cameras, coffee and ring tones on the same site, become an authority in a chosen field, and the links and traffic will come naturally.

Popular things like, whats new in tech (Apple,Cisco etc)
Stars and Gossip for some reason people love to read about others idk why lol
I never tired it but just go on Google and yahoo trends and blog about those things you think will be popular for a week or the next few months.

You should go with what you know. If your thinking about it someone else as well will be. Just optimize it well and create a good open community for all. Remember as well that if you know a lot about your niche and enjoy it then it won't be a job but will be fun.
