Hi guys, I wasn't sure where to put this but it's a question about traffic so hopefully its in the right place. My new blog Web Hosting reviews has just been released, I am planning to write reviews on as many hosting providers as possible. There are a couple of sites that do this already, but they aren't particularly in-depth, and they don't look at the service over a period of time. I want to ask whether you think my blog will get traffic (obviously after marketing) and whether there is a future for it, please ignore the domain name, its new and I don't want to spend any money on it until I have a large number of reviews or I know that it has potential... Thanks for the advice..
I can say it will definetly be successfull if you aim at making money via advertising. If you keep up with lots of content and get some webhosting/webmaster backlinks, traffic will increase greatly and therefore people will pay good money to have their website reviewed to your large audience.
To be honest, I lost interest after the first paragraph. Here's what I suggest: Get your own domain name Host your own WP blog and take regular backups Visit my blog for promotion guidance Write unique content, and include images to break up the content People will link to you if the content is unique and interesting. Add Adsense on to the blog - but dont make it look spammy When the money comes in employ a few other people to write reviews or allow people to submit reviews themselves. I've received 19,000 backlinks on one of my blogs by simply writing unique content - 10% of the links are exchanges, the remainder are one way links. Hope this helps Darren
Darren, thanks very much for your advice. Can I ask, did you lose interest after the first paragraph because you didn't care about the topic, or did you think it was badly written?
Monty, because I lost interest. i.e. I read the first paragraph, saw all the text, and no images to help me split the long article up. I don't think it was badly written, and I do have an interest in hosting, due to the number of sites I manage. I'm not promoting my blog here, but have a look at my posts, one paragraph, an image, one or two other paragraphs, and then a link which directs them to the full article. By the time they get to the more link they will either get fed up and move on or click it because they want to read more. Loads of text can be daunting - I think I read somewhere 250 words is good enough for a blog entry - I always type much more than that though!
I didn't take the time to visit your blog and I appologize for that. However, I suggest you get your own domain, you will feel very bad having optimised your site and then in a few months when it takes off and you decide to buy a domain you will lose all those backlinks and search engine rankings.
I agree. If your serious about blogging, then its' best to buy a cheap domain, and hosting and download a blog software like Wordpress. It seems a waste of time promoting something and gaining links, on a free host domain name. Just my opinion.
For me all blogs are good if you have unique contents. Dont worry for language you use, focus on message and values you deliver, you will win friends. Be smart Get your own domain now!!
It seems like you've got a topic for a content site, not a blog. Blogs are the most overrated buzzwordy things on the Internet right now. They're supposed to be like an Internet journal or diary, with interesting timely information with a personal touch. Some people make money abusing the format because it's so easy to create a blog compared to a properly organized content site. But it's annoying to stumble across one.
I agree with the domain name. I am planning to do it soon. If you have capital do it now. For me a blog is a CMS (Content Management System). Well the best is Joomla but that is a different story.
Yep I sound in with everyone else, free blog sites are a great way to figure out if blogging ins for you but if you are serious and want to earn money your own URL is the way to go. For $30-$40 a year it is a sure bet.
thanks for the advice guys, I'l probably invest in my own domain name but soon .co.nr will be offering a dns service, and my free hosting account offers dns, so then my site will be basically exactly the same as a paid site but with .co.nr instead of .com , surely the .co.nr doesn't matter that much? Also, I do think I am justified in calling it a blog, because thats what it is, its a journal of my experiences (or others) of web hosting companies...
Godaddy-> Add Domain to cart -> add two months of linux basic hosting -> use coupon "saveten" -> Final Price < $10. That's like one day's lunch or a few hours of freelancing. They also have plenty of payment options so there isn't any excuse.
what I am trying to say is whats the point?its not about the money, its aout the effort, if i buy hosting, it wont make ANY difference to me, i dont need lots of bandwidth or unlimited size of my site, i just need hosting, when i set up a dns, no one will notice that its free hosting, so why bother? ill never use the features of paid hosting, i can only see benefit in buying .co.uk or .com, but im not even sure about that...
i don't know about those reviews, i gave a review of MY experience with them, it took me about 2 minutes after payment to start uploading files to my site, they are fantastic imo, maybe they used to be worse?
plus I know its an obvious port of call and probably stupid to judge a service by it but look at their testimonials, there are a few there from very well known companies and people....
I understand what you are saying, I always use free hosting (awardspace) for my splash pages while I am developing my sites since I see no point in paying for resources I won't use. However, when you use a free hosting service you get no guarantee whatsoever. The host can do whatever they want, they can even delete your site, without previous notice. That's why people suggest that you get a good host which you can rely on and even complain when things are not working well.
