You ever notice one day your on the first page of google, the next day your on the 2nd or even 3rd page?

If you update your page once or twice a day are you able to stay on top? (i admit I didnt update for 5 days and I slid to 3rd page)

Any other tips for everyone besides updating original content when you can?

    thanks all

My home page hasn't been touched for months and neither have those of my competitors ... we're doing just fine.

I honestly don't believe that original content needs to be added constantly.

No. How frequently you update a web page is not a measure of how relevant that page is to a searcher's query. Frequent updates may encourage frequent crawling, but that by itself won't lead to higher rankings.

More exposure of your updates on the other hand (rss content for eg) would probably result in higher rankings.

It really depends on your competitors, on how serious they are on their site.
So if the competition for that keyword is high, you should expect that your site will go up and down fast especially if your site isn't established yet.So what you should do is keep on doing your best and Google will take care of the rest ;):D
Seriously, SERP are doing some nuts to me lately because of the constant update google is doing now. But I don't really care what will be my site's ranking for today and the next day because I know sooner or later I will harvest the fruits of my labor.

It happens. If your site is bouncing between pages 2 and 3 and page 1; your normal remedy is to get more (relevant) links to the bouncing page. It'll settle after a while. Google does use several algo's simultaneously, so while it may be on page 2 for you, it may be on page 1 for someone else. But, more links, will always make it more stable.

I'll probably agree on this one. I can relate to what you're saying. I'm on this position before when I seems to panic when this happens. And tend to double my time for adding link partners to my site. When the site becomes stable, that's the time I should focus on creating new content again. The bottom line is try to bring more relevant links to your site and your rankings will be fine.

I'd like to add to that last statement.... it's not just adding links (partners)... it's adding topically relevant links (partners).

yes changing page everyday doesnt give you high ranking...it purely depends on competion and all other related factors.. and also it depends on your backlinks.. you need to concentrate on all the factors rather then beliving that its just not updating pages drops your ranking
