    Jimmy Kimmel used the word, pronounced it nitch last night. I wasn't really watching, so I don't know what context, but it caught my attention because of this thread.

    In English it is NEESH. It always has been. Its got nothing to do with quiche and nothing to do with saying bitch as beesh.

    All of the discrepancies in pronouncing or spelling a word in America one way and in the UK another way is simply an American simplification of the English language.

    Americans seem to spell words as they sound and pronounce words as they look on a page.

    Here in the US I've never heard it pronounced any way other than 'nitch'.

    Sure some of you are arguing that people in the US butchered the word, but many English words are the result of simplified/modified Latin or some other language. English is prescriptive, not descriptive. There's nothing wrong with that. :p

    I hear it both ways - and both ways are REALLY popular. I pronounce "nitch" as that's how it is around this region, but I've been down south, and I personally prefer "Neesh".
