PHPBB... once you get the site established migrate to a paid forum. Especially now that vB just went to crap...using a free version that is stable will allow you to wait out all the vb4 bug fixes :D

Yes, and I assume yes...if there is a mod for it. You'll need to find someone that knows something about PHPbb to answer that. heh... I could help for the VB board, as that's all I know.

Certainly vBulletin if you have the cash :) vBulletin has lots of mods to integrate with your forum. www.fragswitch.com offers vBulletin for £3/month. Though its not free, but you get to try it at a small price before committing to it.

Phpbb is the best for free and there is no VB software for free I would suggest you just use PHPBB until you have allot of members, Your forum may flop or you might loss interest before then so I would think that it is best just to run PHPBB for now

QFT - Quoted for truth. Go with a free script for the first year. After that first year, if your site is still online, then go with some paid forum software.

The vbulletin project is in a heck of a mess right now. I highly recommend that you look at invision power board until the vbulletin stuff is fixed.

For a free script, I can not recommend phpbb - go with SMF or MYBB. I have seen too many phpbb forums hacked to recommend it for anything.

If you want to go with vB, there are licenses for sale here .....i see a few threads.
I say vB if you want easy forum management :)

Go with phpBB3. It is very stable, highly secure, scalable, and has high performance. vB is a server resource hog, from my experience.

vb4 is really bad right now, but vb3 is still good. For the future though, I would take IPB as the top choice right now though. If you can get vb3 cheap though, that is also a great option. If you are going free I'd recommend mybb.

Unless you want to pay $200 for VB i think you should stick with phpBB. myBB is a good forum aswell.

From those three, I like mybb the best at the moment, although this tends to change from time to time as some software come out with better, newer releases, etc.
