doesnt "GOOGLE NEWS" post up new articles regardless - as long as it find it. also its only in the top position until the next one is found? then you drop..which could be minutes - please clarify.

 

@bigbody300 - Google News only takes articles from selected syndication channels. It's not just a case of chucking an article online and expecting Google News to hunt it down algorithmically - it takes feeds only from a closed set of sources which are regarded as sufficiently credible to warrant inclusion in the Google News listings.

Also - it doesn't just rack up results in order of their recency. News articles are ranked for relevance to the search term, much like Google's main listings. This means you won't be relegated in minutes or hours or even days from the front page, provided your PR is good enough/relevant enough to stick.

b) can anything be done to maintain the natural rank even as press release gets older?

1. I always send through a link to my clients showing the syndicated PR and its ranking in Google News (usually on the front page for all three keywords.)

2. The PR stays on the front page of Google News, on average, for a couple of weeks. In less competitive niches, it can be even longer.

3. In the extremely unlikely event it doesn't hit the front page of Google (never happened with any of my PRs to date), I'll rewrite it to make sure it gets on the front page. Ultimately, syndication is out of my hands, but if the PR is well written it has a far better chance of making it through, and I work with newswires everyday in helping clients get their PRs online.
