you can always try to sell something you have on craigslist and ebay and then reroll the profits into something else. i think there was a site out there called red paperclip that traded up merchandise, if you are persistent you might be able to replicate something similar.
If you get it right, email marketing to the people that want it is cost affective! But it's still horrible spam, the important thing is to not waste time with spam like email, and try to build a report with someone that would actually be interested in your site/product
