20K pageviews is a lot. if you're doing like $40/day, then your CPM is just $2, which really sucks.. consider relocating your adsense then, or may be your traffic is not targetted enough

Who says it applies to everyone? You need to have that much traffic just to even consider making the stated goal. If you aren't doing anything with your impressions, that's entirely your fault, and perhaps you should work on it instead of whining. ;)

I get an average of 15,000 to 28,000 visitors a day on my entertainment site. My page views are much higher due to multiple pages on my site. Last month I had over 2 million page views. It is mostly urban target market so maybe they don't like to click on ads (I know I don't). That's why I thought I would make a killing just off page views alone. I see I was wrong.

I think it's my target audience. They don't like to click ads. But I thought I would make money off just the page views. I guess I am whining because with 200,000+ page views a day (on all my pages) you'd think that would account for something.

    NewToAllThis,

As Michael Goldman said, let's see your site URL and maybe we can make suggestions to improve your ad placement. Sometime all it takes is a little tweaking, moving an ad here or there, adding an ad here, etc.

I suggest not only tweaking, but tracking. See what makes money and what doesn't. Basically, there are three factors that determine how much you make.
Traffic, ad placement and content. Content is something that makes the most difference, once you know what pays and what doesn't. Tweaking ad formats and layout is very simple too. Traffic, by far, is the most difficult part of the equation. However, you can quadruple your earnings by just keeping a "diary" of what pages make what, what ads are displayed and what trigger keywords for these ads are (which is simple, because they are usually in the ad).
A typical situation is this - most money is made by clicks that pay $0.50 to $1.50. But most clicks are in the much lower range $0.05-$0.10. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to start seeing trends. Get rid of low paying content, add more better performing content and play with ad formats. That can give you a nice jump in earnings as well.

Everyone's eCPM will vary greatly. My eCPM doesn't vary, ever. It was the same in November 05 through today, and I doubt it will ever change. Traffic is up 400-600% since I started in November and eCPM is within pennies of the old number, and I'm happy with that. So are my readers, and so are my advertisers who I know are getting sales out of my clicks.

Would I like my eCPM to be higher? Of course! But my niches are not very high paying, and that's fine. As traffic grows, a stable eCPM means a better income. But I've also seen people complain that their higher traffic brought lower eCPM, which I feel would not be good (higher traffic could mean higher hosting costs and the like).

I even monetized my lowest traffic sites and forums recently which doubled traffic again, and my eCPM stayed exactly where it always has been. I was worried to monetize those areas due to all the rumors about Smart Pricing, but it looks like people were probably wrong about low CTR sites bringing you down. My CTR dropped when I added my forums, but my eCPM stayed the same, so who cares.

Comparing to my experience, $1000 needs 100.000 - 150.000 pageviews and 5.000 - 6.000 clicks. That's lot of traffic and lot of clicks per day.

For my site with higest CPM I'd need 16,000 imps per day to make 1000 bucks. Thats around 62 in CPM. Average, I make 4,89. So 204,000 imps per day. Still got some work todo there.

It is possible to make them out of just 3000 impressions everyday - i know many would not believe it.But it is probable with laser targeted niches and well placed ads.

P.S.i just noticed the age of this thread.I am so sorry.Never saw that it was three years old.

1000 a day is serious money with adsense. I wonder which sites make this much.

Plus you need to take the Niches Keywords into consideration. However the above is a good guestimate.
