Hosts have suspended my account, can I switch?

I am with a hosting company who for no logical reason have suspended my account. My sites are my living and I can't afford to have them down. I have mailed them with no reply and I am getting worried now. I am not a techno phobic at all and chose these as they had a idiot proof web builder. I have no idea about how to go about swapping hosts. My question is how easy is it to do and will I now lose all my info? I have the web builder stored on my p.c with all my pages. Sorry for any dumb questions, but this is all new to me. They also have my main domain which was renewed 2 weeks ago, will this cause any problems?

    Thanks for any help

If you still can login to your last host client area, then you can change the nameserver of the domain.

Its easy to switch host, just upload the backup file to new hosting.

    Who is your hosting company?

They have suspended everything, even my email access and my login details for my C.P dont work anymore. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt before I mention who they are, I could p.m you if its important. How do I go about the domain if I can;t get in my C.P? It looks like theey are just a middle man for domains as they dont advertise that side of their business, they use enom.

If they are using sometype of billing system like WHMCS, then you should be able to log on into the client area to change the nameservers. If they give you any trouble with the domain, I will contact enom directly and see if they can intervene.

I think you need specify the reason first and then move. The same reason might cause account suspending next time with another web hosting provider

You need to change your domain nameserver there and take a backup of your files and install it on new hosting.
It is easy just takes time.

    That no good.
    What site you hosted there?
    Is it illegal?
If its legal, then you can file a complain with icann to get back your domain.

First off, where are your websites hosted? (url please)

If they have your domain (if they own it) then there is nothing you can do.. why would you let them renew your domain if your sites 'are your living'.

If you own the domain(s), and you have the files on your computer, you can update your nameservers to another host in the meantime, and just upload your files there. I can help you do this if you want.

I own my domain according to whois, I just passed it over after the company I used to go through just stopped answering emails, it is a .co.uk name which nominet have the rights to anyway and they helped me move it before as the other company would not play ball, I was the one who first registered the name, so i would presume i have full ownership. I am new to all this and had a lot of help getting my site up, so even.

By files uploading somewhere else, what exactly do I need, all I have is the pages in my current web builder, will this do?

    Sorry for the dumb questions

I'm not sure I understand. Do you have an account at nominet?, and if so, when you log into that account, does it show your domain name. PM me your domain name if you want me to check.

If your site is static, you just need all the files that made up your site. (contact.html, index.html, example.html)

If its a blog (wordpress) or CMS (Joomla, Drupal, etc.), or a database driven website, you will need the database along with the files.

There is no such thing as a dumb question, so ask away.

If they've suspended access then you are going to have to get in touch with them. Email them again, and if that doesn't work, telephone them - I assume they have a telephone number on their site that works? If that doesn't have an effect the next best thing is to name the company here and maybe someone can help you.

You've done the right thing by registering the domain name yourself, but the next thing you should do is move the domain to a company that does nothing but register domains. DO NOT purchase your domain from your hosting company, and DO NOT move your domain over to the control of your hosting company as there is no need to do that. Always use a 3rd party to register your domain and that way you keep complete control of it at all times.

Going to Nominet to get your domain moved is a lengthy process and it's much better if your host and domain registrar are different companies.

There is no need to get your domain moved, just update your nameservers to the new host.

It seems there was a problem with payment details and they suspended my account, a friend of mine had direct access to the owner and sorted it out, thanks for all the replys though.

yeah same thing happen to me, my hosting provider suspend my account and "Give a refund" (This mean they know they're wrong" just because I have too much visitors. Bad thing is i didn't have time to back up my site (too busy working) and now everything gone and even worst is my visitor ... they're not going to come back to a suspended site. So don't ever register your account with hostso.com ... they're suck

I'd still move hosts if the current one can screw up and bring you down without a word of warning.

Get the hell out of there once you can!

Been through the Nominet thing too, it's a pain but I ended up being a tagholder.

You just need to give the backup file to the new host. If you don't want to mess with it then I would recommend HostGator as they will do everything for like $10 I think. Also, let this be a reminder to always consistently backup your data OUTSIDE of your web host because if something goes wrong at your web host then you don't want to lose both your primary data and your backup data at the same time. Check out http://www.Backupalicious.com to do full cPanel automatic website backups to Amazon S3.
