Is having adwords for your directory worth it? Has anyone tried it and if so what were there results? I was thinking of trying it for my directory http://gaminglinks.org

I would also be very interested to hear experiences about this. I have been thinking for quite sometime to try an adwords campaign but I am a complete adwords noob and I am afraid that I will be throwing money away.

Yeah, I have used adwords a lot so I am not a newb to it but I'm just wondering if it's worth the money. Not really for the hits but I am going for more as will it bring more submissions to my directory.

I have been running Adwords (also Overature and Adcenter) for my main directory for a while now. It adds a nice steady flow of unique traffic.

Unique traffic, sure but do you think any of those people are submitting and sites to your directory?

I think is worth it for the traffic, however, the hard thing is to keep your visitors in coming back :)
I think RSS feed should help in keeping visitors back.

Yes, I can tell from my analytics that they are. The nice thing is you get a whole other segment of visitors. Different than the normal ones coming from directory lists, webmaster forums etc.

It honestly depends on your PageRank for the directory... if you're advertising via PPC to try and get submissions to a PR3 directory... save your money... If you have a PR6+ paid directory, then it could be worth it assuming you select the appropriate keywords.

What about a freshly started directory that hasn't even had a PR developed yet?

We agree it could work if you have the right type of directory and select carefully the keywords, and of course don't forget to set a spend per diem
