I have an autoresponder type of mailing system set up on my website. The visitor can sign up, receive a preview of my product, followed by a sequence of useful tips emails. Obviously, in addition to providing free information, I'm pushing my product in each of these emails. Currently, there are a total of 6 emails sent to each customer, but I'm planning to expand it to 8 or more. So my question is, what do you think is the best interval between each mailing? Is 24 hours too pushy? Is 48 hours too long of a wait? Or maybe the interval should vary? What has your experience been with this stuff? Thanks for any responses. Cel
depends of your server resources / hosting plan. I think you have to count all the emails per hour or 24h. Something like 300 emails per hour is painless number. You may always aks your hosting provider for such an specific things
Hey theivo, Thanks for your reply. Actually I was asking not from the server load point of view (that's not an issue for me), but from the marketing point of view. Sorry, I should have stated that clearer perhaps. Perhaps I'll phrase it like this. What is the best interval between mailings to maximise sales? If I send an email every 24 hours, I'll run out of stuff to say in about a week, but that will be a week of intense pushing. Every 48 hours is not so pushy, but then again, the customer is more likely to lose interest during that interval. I realise that this will depend on my product, on the type of information I provide in the mailings etc etc, but I would simply like to hear what other people's experience has been with this. Thanks, Cel
A good follow up email spacing is 1, 2, 3, 5, 5, 7, 7, this is the number of days after the previous one
Oh wow, that's pretty specific, thank you. Is that just based on your experience or is this some common knowledge that I have missed out on? Thanks, Cel
i run a forum, and I send out emails every 21 days if they haven't log on. I often get replies such as "Take me off your list"!
If you wait too long between messages the subscriber will opt out. That is the worst case scenario so you have to keep their interest and keep in constant contact. At least once per week. Always leave them wanting more information at the end of each email. Include an upgrade option near the end of each email for your paid service aswell. There is no set email interval. Just quality information that keeps the subscribers interest.
All right, thank you everyone for your responses. I think I will try the gradually increasing intervals as recommended by lcwadminbj, but perhaps increasing in a slower manner - the 7 day gaps in the end seem like a bit too much. Then again, I don't have much experience with this, so I guess I'll just have to play around. Cel
I recently had a subscriber that unsubscribed with the content "information overload." Of course, this could be that he just wanted a freebie, but I since then changed my intervals to every other day (I have a newsletter setup of 10 emails) and I will usually broadcast a message maybe once or twice every two weeks.
This is series interval tha t many use. the 7's could be changed to 5's or 6's remember this is for follow ups when they initially join. News letters shoud not be more than 1 a week with the occacional broadcast if you have something REALY important to tell them. I am currently just completing a new report and am covering AR's in it, and yes I base things on my knowledge and experience.
