Well, there is no definate answer that people will give you. In the long run, a site is probably a lot better, thougha blog is probably easier to get off the ground.

why do you say this? isn't a blog a cms-based site anyway?

i'd say which one makes more money depends on how much targeted traffic you can attract to your site and what content you have; instead of the distinction between the type of site (regular vs blog)...

    Thanks for the reply...

But what about some people who own lots of blogs? (some, even more than 10)

    Is that good for AdSense?

Wondered how they manage to provide valuable content.

Which will bring you the most visitors? If you have an idea for a killer website that is going to draw in millions of regular visitors then go for that. If you have strong opinions on popular subjects and can put them in writing in a humorous way that draws people in, then go ahead and write the next big blog. If you are neither then you will have to do what the rest of us do; put a website up because you have a genuine interest in the subject, stick a few google ads on to help cover costs and see where it takes you. There is one final option but its not for the feint hearted: buy a couple of dozen MFA sites off ebay and hope to make your money back before Google catches up with you ;)

    Cheers
    BP

PS The very fact that you are asking this question implies your site is going to be 'made for adsense'; to be honest if you want visitors and you want long term growth you'd be better off choosing a subject matter and researching this first to decide what new angle you have to offer! A good way to start is not to see what everyone else is doing but what they aren't doing.

I agree with qwest - a blog IS a website for all sense and purpose. I have both and see similar CTR in both options. Blogs like wordpress have a very "website" feel to them if set up well. I get far more traffic to sites but that is more likely to be because my sites are mature and my blogs are relative babies.

If you could "assume" similar traffic volumes I doubt there would be much difference.

There is few distinction between "blogs" and "sites" nowadays. What matters is the content.

Blog is just one of many types of sites. Some do better with blogs, some with forums, some with affiliate sites, some with content, there are many different sites. It will be very hard to establish which one is "best".

I think it's all down to traffic ... the more traffic you have the higher you will probably earn. Blogs tend to do better for some people because they are rich in content. Bottom line - quality content + high traffic = big money

Fact. On a related note, Stevepavlina.com is a blog that monetizes it's content nicely.

A blog needs to be updated constantly, while a good website might not need that attention. Example: A website about the history of the 20th century will not see many changes as history rarely changes afterwards. I think it really depends on the topic if a blog or a website suits your personal needs better. I build my websites with a clear picture in mind in how I can maintain it and do I have time to update this specific sites often enough.

I beg to differ you do not need to update a blog very often, you may think you do becasue many blogs display the post date, any webmaster will easily be able to get rid of that

I do agree with your point about a history site or something... even better run a website which is all automated..e.g a forum or a site where users submit content :)

Overall website vs blog i think are both equal in the adsense revenue..traffic!!!

The one with the most traffic and/or best niche makes the mst money. Websites with content interesting to females make the most dough. I have a friend who started a blog on pregnancy, twins, triplets, etc., and she is cleaning up! In less than 3 weeks she has almost cleared $700 in Adsense revenue! :p

I earn about equal money from web sites as I do from blogs. Overall, I find it easier to get traffic to blogs but easier to get a high CTR from web sites. This is simply because it's a little easier for me to integrate ad blocks into web sites just where I want them than it is with blogs. (I'm not much of a designer, so I have to work with existing templates.)

Google tends to index your new site faster if it's a blog. MSN also favours sending visitors to blog-style sites. But a caveat, I've only had experience with Wordpress blogs vs static sites. It's important to setup the Wordpress blog according to all the SEO recommendations, especially the ping list.

Quality content is also important - one good way to judge this is whether visitors from a related forum to the new site (link in your forum signature) visit other pages in the site (which indicates that your site holds their interest well), or do they exit your site after landing on it.

Hmmm, that makes sense! Just like almost all advertising on TV is geared towards women. I wish I would have thought of that before.

I have a blog but I'm thinking of getting my own domain. there are limitations in the amount of links that you can post in a blog. for example, i can't include my CJ link in the article itself (anyone who knows how kindly tell me).
