    Hi

I have a VPS of following specifications

    256MB RAM
    35GB Hard Disk
    400Mhz Processor

I want to install an Operating System on it and Web Site Control Panel. Last time I use Koloxo It takes up my all RAM after some days.

Now I am very worried because all of my sites are closed. Please suggest me what softwares to use to work with in available resources

    Minimum Resources and Maximum Output

I shall be thank full to you

Your spec is not good for give better output. Try ispconfig for Web Site Control Panel.

256MB RAM isn't loads, but if you are experienced and can put the effort into fine tuning it, you can still get some performance out of it. 400MHz isn't very fast at all though, so if you have any kind of dynamic pages, you might hit some difficulty.

I'm sure there must be other control panels that use less resources. I know DTC seems reasonably friendly in this respect, but it's not very well known at present.

DTC is available at http://www.gplhost.com/software-dtc.html but I only advise using it if you are an expert with Unix. It probably does more than what you want too.

I didn't know they even had OS-less VPS hosting available -- not in 2010, at least.

Why not get one pre-loaded? Cost can't be too much different. Look around webhostingtalk.com for latest hosting deals. (Not sure if this forum has anything comparable, still a bit new here.)

256MB RAM isn't enough for most sites, especially if it's running PHP sites. Control panels alone want a lot of RAM to run. I use 256MB RAM for burst alone.

If you don't need a control panel, i'd recommend this mainly due to your low CPU allocation:

    - lighttpd or nginx web server with PHP
    - Remotely hosted DNS (everydns? editdns?)
    - Remotely hosted email (Google apps is great for this)
    - MySQL configured for low RAM usage

I think this is particularly important. I've found that spam checking functionality (SpamAssassin, tumgreyspf etc.) and even the MTA itself often uses up a lot of memory, so getting this provided for free off-system is a wise move.
