WordPress Hosting vs. Alternative Hosting

I hope I'm posting this in the right section -- if I'm not, I apologize but this sub-forum felt like the best place to get a good response.

Here's the deal: I'm going to be starting a blog pretty soon and I was wondering whether to sign up for WordPress and buy a domain with GoDaddy (or something) and use WordPress's free hosting and attach my domain to it or get alternate hosting (like hostgator.com) and a domain and manage my WordPress with those two models. What's everyone else recommend?

Let me state that in the future I do plan to add a forum (under my domain as well [http://www.simplemachines.org/]), so I don't know if that has anything to do with it but the website will always be a blog at least until the foreseeable future.

    Cheers

well, if i understand you want to choose between preinstalled wordpress blog hostings, and shared host with (for example) cpanel? I would definitely choose shared (cpanel) hosting, because that way i can customize more the site, preinstalled things have a limit of features.

If you use wordpress.org for your blog there are limitations on how much you can customize your site where as if you host your wordpress blog on a web host there are no limitations.

If you're talking about hosting with wordpress.com when you say "WordPress's free hosting", you have no option to install the plugins you;re asking about. Your only option is to download the software from wordpress.org and find yourself a host like hostgator like you mention.

If you're talking about another free provider, I'm sure you'll be explaining shortly.

Do you have plans to incorporate a sales process? Do you want to control your own destiny and prevent being banned for unknown reasons? Do you want to use plugins?

Yes, I meant WordPress.com's hosting, and thanks for all the help. I'm going to purchase hosting very soon.

    Hello,

Its not necessary you host with them ..check your requirement ..like weather you would like hosting in UK or US.. then check your Budget ..Then start looking for a reliable host thats fulfills your requirement..shortlist them and then decide.
