    @pipes

In fact your complete statement above sounds hollow. Are you suggesting that we can not gather data and run tests on the publicly accessible parameters like PageRank to see at what level we get the most maximum ROI? (Come on man, you do not need to know the inner workings of the Google algo to do that). If yes then you need to learn a bit about data collection and running statistical tests. A beginners course may help.

Before we drag it into a never ending debate on whos wrong and whos right let me clarify a bit -

If you have worked in the SEO industry for a long time you must have come to realize that most of the things that we do are based on "trends" and "speculations" ( i am not talking about PPC here). When you work with large volumes of data you notice certain trends. I do not claim it to be a fact, not even a theory - only a trend. Based on that i gave a tip - to help a fellow webmaster, thats all. Do you want to accept that tip? - it is up to you.

When it comes to what i say regarding anything to do with seo, i have to say that it can be suggested that anything ive said could potentially be hollow because i cant know how algo's work specifically at the search engine companies.

I agree that you can run tests but i also feel that you can decide that something is so, purely because it will make you feel in control of something that is otherwise a mystery to anyone that is outside of the large search engine companies.

PR and ROI should not be connected i feel, because say for example some links were acquired of a particular pr, and upon the next pr update some pr is lost, does that make the pr useless or is it just that your calculations are flawed because changes in pr were not expected or a belief in thinking you know what some pr is worth leading to disappointment?

I'll just go back to what you suggested, to use above pr3, and basically what it made me feel that you were saying when you stated that.

What i personally feel that i know about pr is this: that you shouldn't try to buy it, or sell it or focus too hard on it but that its right to be aware of it, because as many know, that it does matter, even if its just one of the factors that is taken into account.

I just feel that to suggest to people that it will be a waste to use anything thats not above pr3 is like that scene in the film spinal tap when he is talking about the amp going to 11, lol

Then why dont google just start their pr at pr3 :D

I would actually like to learn about data collection, and will in the future but it would probably be internal, as in collective intelligence and statistics and all that, but for a site and not trying to gather information regarding the big search engines.

I dont want to accept your tip, but i understand that some probably will.

It is worth adding website to good directories.

I would avoid directories with too many third party adverts and banners.

This directory entry in hotfrog is already a year old:
    http://www.hotfrog.com/Companies/Rich-Ltd-POP-Displays

I wonder why directories like Hotfrog and many others don't show up an inlink in Yahoo's site explorer tool for the website richltd(dot)com.

    Thanks

Same effect at what? Passing PR or driving overall traffic? I think you really need to look at more than just PR when looking at the effect various directories can have on a whole host of things from traffic, SERPs, rank, indexing, back links, pr, etc...

Hi, there are still some high PR directories which approve listings quite quickly. I recently released this tool:

    http://free-directory-submitter.org/

    Which lists some of them.

Lol, you want to know if they're dead and then if theres a list to submit to those dead directories? Dead directories that give backlinks? :D

    What about low pr directories?

Dont submit to high pr directories?

I think they have very limited use now, as there is simpley to many of them and most are simpley made as money making tools apposed to actual useful resources for normal internet users.

The older larger ones and niche specific directorys are generally quite gud and can provide direct traffic aswell as being listed on inner pr page sometimes, but as a general rule directorys hav little to no value IMO. Still worht doing the odd bit of directory submissions here and there but dont waste to much time with them.

Directory submission isn't dead. It still works, however, you should spend time trying to find good directories in your niche or good general directories. Google treats directories like any other site. They love the good ones and hate the spam sites. Check my sig for a list of free directories that you can use.

Did you mean that the directory section is dead?

Same crap questions that are repeated time and time again, try using the search feature!

    Thanks Brian

LOL man, I think Dear Dorothy just trolling us.
Surely she must know that there wasn't official announcement made yet by World Directories Associated Counsel
declaring that submission to directories are dead from now on and that until it will be officially announced, we still can submit
sites to good and / or bad directories regardless.

As to list of directories I hope thousands of them posted in DP forum will help her to submit to every dead directory she can find

Cant say that submissions are dead cuz I still get many paid submissions every week. I believe most other good directories get it too. However, I am not sure if getting a link from a un-edited directory jammed with junk listings would be of any benefit.
