    1. Make your directory Search Engine Friendly.

    2. I wouldn't charge for regular links unless your pages have PR.

    3. Featured Links are always nice. ;)

Probably because a new directory is usually skipped over by submitters when they see only paid or recip options. It's generally wise to get some free submissions for a while to build up the directory.

    hi bacanze,

I'd suggest disabling disaplying of the site/category count until you have a lot of sites listed. I agree with the others, enable featured listing and allow regular links to be listed for free (at least until you have PR). Definitely enable URL rewriting to make it more search-engine friendly. I'd suggest making a custom skin/theme, too, as this will make it stand out from the many other directories using the same one.

Add something to make it stick out, an extra reason for people to visit. If you're familiar with PHP, add a few custom scripts. You might want to ban MFA sites from being listed, too, although is it your own?

Also, promote it as either just www or no-www. Make sure to reflect that on your site, too - not just in the HTML code but also url-redirection of the www/no-www. I've written about how to do this in Is My Web Directory Search Engine Friendly?

    Good luck, bacanze.
