    PR has become a benchmark for rating directories now ! The age of Human edited Quality directories like DMOZ are gone. DMOZ still exist as a giant due to its quality only.

    But people tend to go for shortcuts now.. get page ranks in not time byt doing all linking in a months time and market their sites asap. No one wants to build a traffic based on their quality content. The fact is that Google would come and find your site and index it, if its niche. But now, people run after Google to market the sites :)

    Now it has become difficuilt for good publishers who writes and host Quality content to promote their websites..

    I would like to discuss about "Inorganic page ranking and artificial SERPs!"

    Please comment.

    sorry for the confusion.

    People nowadays tend to go for shorcuts to market their websites like anything, but dont care much about their content or what they offer.
    One more thing I have noticed is they start promoting a website from the day they buy their Domains. i.e much before they develop a proper site..

    Reg: Inorganic page ranking and artificial SERPs!

    Inorganic page ranking : people go after getting a PR somehow. they dont look for quality inbounds or they dont care spamming other sites, etc

    Artifical SERPs: Excessive Linking using a particular keyword so as to brand your site for that particular keyword. Eg:A google search "Click here" would show Adobe Reader as first result.

    See this:

    Really? The anchor text of your page's inbound links is absolutely, hands down, bar none... THE most important ranking factor for determining how well a page ranks for a particular keyword phrase.

    Why does Adobe rank so well for "click here"? Think of how many sites on the web have a link to Adobe to download the Adobe Acrobat Reader or Flash plugin that read something like "To download Adobe Acrobat Reader click here". Same with Apple's Quicktime.

    Link text is king when it comes to organic ranking. I can make a page about turtles rank for "purple elephant" with enough inbound links even if the words "purple" and "elephant" never appear anywhere on the page.

    @OP

    There is no such thing as "inorganic" rankings in the SERPs... Inorganic would be paid like Adwords.
