Lol. This needs more attention from everyone, particularly newbies hosted by Godaddy. Registering for a Wordpress.com account will make you eligible for a Wordpress key. Can you post a screenshot of the actual email?
Here is a screenshot of the email message. Pro version or not, if I were a newbie, I would spend the money on this because I wouldn't know better. I am just really surprised, that's all.

As a former licensee of the commercial large scale license, there's no real difference between them. Only difference between them is on how many sites you can use it on. I had one for my wpmu installs in trade for the work I did for them.
