Transfering a .com domain name

    Hi all.

I run a small hosting, web / software development business in South Africa.

I know very well how to transfer our .co.za domain names (works via plain text emails, really easy and there is only 1 registrar).

I now have a client that wants his .com domain name transferred to the servers I use. His domain name is currently hosted by a hosting company, and the domain name was registered by enom.

So, any advice please, what is the process to move this domain name to my servers. I don't use enom, I use namecheap.com

    Regards,

    John

get his domain auth code and initiate transfer in namecheap.

but i think namecheap also uses enom so u may get push option too

    Thanks for the reply...

I did check in namecheap, they want the EPP code. I don't know what that is, but I'm guessing if I get that from my previous client (or more likely his current hosting company), then I just put that in at namecheap, et viola, the transfer takes place...??

yes thats what auth code or domain secret code etc called. take the EPP code from your client and u can transfer to your account. also u need to ask him to unlock the domain to initiate transfer

Do you actually have to transfer registrars? You could simply redirect the dns entries to point to your servers

Well, I'm not sure... As I mentioned, I really don't deal with the .com registrars enough to know how they work. This is the first time I am transferring a domain, I've registered a few new ones, but that's obviously no hassle...

Anyway, I use namecheap, so I was thinking of transferring it to them. I do however have an enom account (unused, but its there). Maybe once I get the EPP code I can log into Enom and do the dns from there? I won't be able to access the enom account where its currently listed because it is under another hosting providers bulk account, so I have no access...

How would that work on enom, any idea?

    Thanks,

    John
