OK, so I've finally got ahead enough with work to set up a website here: http://moneywrite.net/ So what should I be doing now? Are there any themes or plugins that I really should be using. Is the tone right or wrong for getting customers interested? Any general critiques are welcome. Essentially I'm a finance specialist who's aiming to get affiliate marketers and other webmasters to read the blog. By the way if anyone wants to guest post (only if it's of interest to finance related web masters) or get a mutual link then please let me know.
Looks good to me. Some sort of symbolic image on the header would be a nice addition though. Also, all the posts say "By admin", either remove that or replace it with your name.

Wow, I like the design. It fits the subject perfectly. But you need more info in each article. ... MUCH more info. You need more info on the homepage also. If the homepage looks a little bare, many will close out of your site. Also, the intro from each article on the homepage has to be really good, enticing. Ask yourself: Would this have me clicking on it to read more, what can it do for me? Ask friends and family if they would click to read more. If not, what would it take. I read a couple, and it just didn't interest me enough to read more. Add, quality, pictures too. It adds value to the site. Think about putting your "past posts" on the bottom of the homepage. Let them see the intro., like you did with your current articles. Put another "subscribe" link on the bottom of all your pages. Put it in front of their faces! But make it bigger, along with more than just the link. Show them why they should subscribe, and then put in a box for them to fill out to send to you. Don't make them have to click on a link to go to it. Put it right there, ready for them to fill out. Really nice design. To get the word out, if you are good at writing, try to be a guest writer for such sites as Yahoo, Huffingtonpost, About.... Do a search for sites that its readers may like your articles. But in order to get a good amount of traffic, over 1,000 daily, you are going to have to advertise. Sorry, there is no way around it.
Hi Perry, I don't think I'd be able to write for 1,000 potential new clients daily, the main thing is I want to get a few people who commission articles to start commissioning articles from me. You're right about the lack of articles, that's going to be a matter of time as I add articles over time. Good points about subscribing. I'll see to this. (By the way the design is a free Wordpress theme.)
As the post above me says, what is the aim of this website? Is it going to be a Directory of articles for webmasters to use? Regular blog attempting to get AdSense clicks? Site where you show samples of your writing in order to get jobs writing content for others? We would be able to help you out a little more if we knew what we were looking at.
Good point. It's a site to show samples of my writing in order to get jobs writing content for other people. I was so caught up in its creation that I didn't see that this could be unclear.
I think I can help you with this. Going back to your website, do a few things for each article. Check for grammar. I am noticing grammatical errors everywhere, and I only spent around 20 seconds looking at the website. In one of the articles, for example, it starts with "In just about ever English speaking insurance market" in which ever should be every. Take the time to write some KILLER introductions. The ones there don't really grab my attention very much. Try starting with a joke or a question. The person who is hiring you will likely read the introduction, skim though the rest of the article checking for spelling and grammar, and maybe read your conclusion. So put the effort in the places where it counts. Re-write the titles. Some of them don't make a lot of sense. Make them all at least 450 words (and post a word count). Write like 5 articles each for Associated Content and Ezine Articles. Don't worry about getting paid for them, just show that your articles can be accepted there. Make a name for yourself. Something attractive, whether it be personal or professional. If you can't think of something, just use your first name. Written by "admin" is kind of... idk it just doesn't work. What I will say is that the domain name is decent and the layout of the site looks good. I like the small paragraphs with the "read more" button. Just remember that you have to gain the person's attention in that little square of text somehow in order for them to be willing to click the "read more" button. You already seem to be aware that you need more content, and that can only be done with time. So I won't really address that.
First of all, I would check your links. I clicked your log book loans article link and got a dead page. Then go through and grammar check. If you are advertising your services as a writer, the last thing you want is grammatical errors. In terms of plugins, if you are using wordpress, I recomment the All-in-one-SEO pack.
Thanks for those points. I'd tried to change the permalinks and it made havoc with all the links. It took me a long time to work that out. I've got the all in one SEO plugin, although I'm not using it yet.
