I think it´s because most users are novice users and they dont hang around forums etc.... they just use the internet to search for products or whatever....

All I can say is that firefox 2.0 beta has answered my one and only want; nice fat red X on every tab. no more scrolling across the browser (1600x1200 gets annoying) . Can open a tab from a tab now too(maybe i just didnt notice this before?).

    ff 4 ever. :D

Wow, atleast we get updates out of firefox every month or so...

IE, they have been what? 2+ years now and no updates??

As for the stats, Internet Explorer is starting to loose its market share of browser. I am starting to see numbers more around 60/40 / 65/35 then the 90/10 as you so state.

As it really is, while Microsoft is a giant, their greed is running them into the ground.

Firefox, while much more secure then internet explorer, does have issues. You can never protect against everything. It is impossible too.

However, alot of things can be protected against which IE doesn't do, and not to mention their CACHING setup is absolutely terrible and resource intensive.

Firefox loads pages faster as well; oh, and firefox actually follows the W3 Guidelines, Microsoft seems to think they "own" the internet and makes up their own rules.

I see that microsoft once again are not developing the good ideas, but rather using everyone elses. So dumb...

I've been using IE all my life, and have never had any security problems. Personally, I think the majority of people who have security problems with IE just don't know what they're doing.

I loved firefox. But recently it had been creating problems for me.

Whenever I surf the sites with FF. There comes some message about RPC Service aborted.

And my PC starts counting down from 59 seconds. :( I can do nothing and it will restart the PC.

I am using IE right now and from last 3 days nothing is happening.

YOu probably have some corrupted system files or a virus. Not a bad idea to check for both. Can also try to reinstall FF. You could always use Opera as well.

You have just described the majority of Web Users who use IE. It is always better to have a Browser be somewhat secure form when you first begin to use it. I generally give a customised version of Opera to users which looks like IE - they been using it for a few years now - including updates and have never had any security issues. Basically many people don't even know there are alternatives to IE.

Firefox is open source and simply has people working with passion. The extensions don't stop. People are constantly making new things. There are so many things that firefox has for webmasters that just makes life so much easier it's nice.

People that are not all that internet/computer wise do use internet explorer though. Around 80% of visitors to my sites still use IE. I think the only reason everyone doesn't your ff is because they don't know...

It's a secret little tool that we webmasters have and love!:D :D :D

Do you have XP SP2 installed? If not, that's the problem :) I can't remember the patch name, but it was a problem on Windows XP machines that either didn't have the patch installed or didn't have SP2 installed.

Alternatively when the countdown appears, type the following in Run (Winkey + R)
    shutdown -a
    Code (markup):

I read an article that compared and contrasted IE7 and Firefox 2.0. Apparently, there is now nothing that firefox has that IE doesn't, except for the extensions of course. Also, IE does it much better. For example, IE's phising detector worked 100% of the time, whereas firefox failed 100% of the time. Hmm... Interesting turn of the tables. Browser wars are getting complex!

I wouldn't put it past another FF extension coming out for the anti-phishing.

    BTW, Opera 9 already does anti-phising :)

Biggest bonus for firefox as I see it, is the quick response on bugs/exploits. Has to be the best response time for any software.
