Hi, everyone. I'm a newbie to this section. Can anyone tell me what a PR1, 2 or 3 means?

I've been noticing those things in many signatures and WTS ads. Thanks ahead for your replies.

PR is short form of Page Ranking. It is a grading system devised and adopted by google to rank the sites on the internet using a formula of their own.

Numbers are given from 0-10 with zero being the base and 10 is the maximum upper grade! :)

    Regards,

PageRank really doesn't mean too much for your site, unless you're offering advertising through your website where you are handling all deals of advertisement. People like to know their links are going on high-PR sites in order to gain some backlink juice. However other than that, it's really just a way to gloat that your site is ranked high in Google

PR is short for Page Rank.
It's the ranking that Google made to rank all site based on its importance.

You need to create a good number of backlinks to increase your PR.

PR means PageRank. The higher the PR the better Google rates it.

    I don't agree

We cannot say the popularity of a website with its PR. After all PR 10 is not mean that it is a search engine.

Please check this site -- http://www.usa.gov/index.shtml

    ^Yes. Search Engines don't have PR10.
Adobe's website is PR10 but it's not a search engine.

Indeed. It's an open discussion here concerning this PR thing, but even Google's engineers said that PR helps your website in many ways and thats completely true. Getting high page rank links back to your website isn't just for the sake of the number you see in Google Toolbar or whatever measurement tool you're using, it's more about the back link neighborhood - a PR 7 backlink got a big number of good neighbors to get there, high authority resources, some .edu - .gov backlinks, and so on, and all these will transfer more or less of they're authority to your website too.
