How Do I Choose BEST Domain Name?

Ok, I'm looking to dive into a VERY profitable niche. However, I need a good domain name (duh).

So i'm using google's keyword tool to see if I can find a domain name that directly matches a popular (but not too popular) search term.

    Here's my questions:
    1. Is .com the ONLY way to go? I'm not afraid to go to .net, but the .info, .biz, etc. scare me.

    2. How long is too long? My domain name i've found open is "the****.com" where the **** is the EXACT match for a keyword getting a little over 2,500 searches per month. If this domain is right I could get a huge boost for people basically typing in my domain into a google search.

    3. Any tips on getting the best domain name? I just heard that this was a good technique (using google keyword tools to get good keywords for domain)

Ok, If a keyword "* * *" is searched for about 4,000/month (on lower side I know, but less competitive than 4,500,000) and the avg CPC is $16 (which means it's converting) should I get the domain name "my* * *.com"

I think google will give a boost since it will be exact match and will get a high percentage of those 4000. Correct or not?

Still can't find one that is .com and isn't 10 words long and makes sense. Plus I have to find one that is going to be competitive in a less competitive keyword to start.

Depending on what the site will be about, I wouldn't totally discount using .info or .biz...

Of course, just as you said, keyword is very important. So if you have found that one, purchase it and .com is always
the best.Try your best to register a .com one.

is .org bad? I can get "the * * *.org" (where * * * is keyword)

p.s. I searched EVERY keyword in this group for .com, .net, and .org and ALL are taken so i'm having to add on identifiers like "the"

I would suggest spending some money to purchase one or more of the generic .com keyword domains in your niche that has decent traffic if any are affordable for you. Don't just give up because the names are registered. You want a .com so the time and money you invest building up the domain traffic will benefit you in the long run. If you are lucky and your keywords and domain name gains traffic over time as you market the website, you don't want to be the one owning the .net or other variation. For commercial purposes, other extensions can only compete against a parked page where the person landing on the website might try again with .net, etc. If there is any kind of site on the .com competing against your website it will be tough going in my opinion.

besides 'the' consider using the popular prefix 'i' as in, iRobot, iPhone, etc. or 'e', like eBooks, eWallet, etc

if you are only going to use the domain for CPC adwords campaigns then i would say it doesnt matter if you get the exact match in .biz or .info or other extensions.

however if you want to build a website to rank in the search engines then i would avoid those and get a .com, .net, or .org

the .com will probably be the only one to get any direct type in traffic.

as an example, there is a website called DistanceLearningu.com (notice the 'u' at the end) that ranks very well for many 'distance learning' search terms (a highly competitive search term). so it is possible to get good SEO with a variant of the exact match of the search term

If you find a good domain name and it is not .com but has easy to remeber name with keywords in it i would buy that one. .com is one most people look for but if you make site that has good domain name and is seo with good keywords the .com or .net or any other one is fine. Do not use country domain names unless your targeting that country.

it is all about how easy it is to remember. I have .net domains that get just as many clicks from SE as my .com's
