You can use hub pages like 350 and squidoo, create the blog and updated the blog, image optimization, alt tag and you can also use the rss feed for ur site.
This methods still work even if they are a little dusty, but now it depends on the anchor you are using, if the used resources are do-follow, and last but not least the web resource neighbor. There are two ways of checking that : using a S.E.O. tools , or by simply taking a look at the ... web directory let's say ... Page Rank , a PR6 directory has good neighbors as well ... more or less of course , but 3-4 bad neighbors from thousands are not going to influence badly the website you are trying to rank.
