Well, my first website has been up for around a week now. So far it has been a rollercoaster ride. It is a myspace-related website and to kickstart it I sent out 1 bulletin across my network (this was during off-peak times also). The bulletin ultimately drove 2,447 uniques to my site with 1.4 visits per person and 8.6 pages per visit. After the first bulletin traffic started a freefall downward although lately the page hits have been going up (while visits goes down). This made a whopping $7.89 from AdSense. I suppose this could be a good amount based on the low number of visitors I have combined with the crappy CTR and eCPM I have. There are a couple reasons why I think my AdSense performance is low: 1) Ads on certain pages are irrelevant, an obvious cause. 2) Placement could have been better. I've changed my placement around - I think it is better now. However, I cannot fix the irrelevant ad problem. I've added the "google_ad_section" start and end tags around the main chunk of content which has the keywords I'm trying to target in it ("meeting people"). I've used the seochat keyword density tool which shows "meeting people" is the most used two word term on the page; one word terms are still relevant. I have absolutely no idea where AdSense is pulling these ads from. Any feedback on my placement or AdSense problems would be appreciated. The site is: http://www.MyHotOrNot.com (displays irrelevant ads, index.php shows slightly relevant ads) Thanks.
Well it seems to be working. There are still a couple ads that are irrelevent. I'll just have to keep watch and filter them as they come up. Thank you
Nearly a month later I thought I would post an update. Income is near $75 total with a little over 8k uniques this month. Site membership is over 700 and growing each day. I also gave the website a complete makeover to blend the ads better while making the site more user friendly. Check it out http://www.MyHotOrNot.com/ and let me know what you think.
wow that is really nice. nice adsense blending but i don't know if that is against the TOS since those links are too blended and misleads users (like me) that it is an actualy link to another page on the site itself.
Yeah. I would like some clarification on this also. I have seen blending like mine done before but it seemed to be a little more separated.
people might accidentally click on the ads thinking its a normal link to ur other page... im sure the advertisers would not want that to happen... try to get more opinons from the experts regarding this.. best is to email google adsense support team..
I've emailed them and they said it's blended too much and the ads aren't labeled sponsors or advertisements. I moved them out of the navigation container and now I think all is well - except my CTR of course which is still under 0.5%
