Another thing. The keyword research and preliminary competitor analysis should be made for UK, not global if the products/services are for the UK market only.
There are a ton of things that you can do. First, good keyword research goes a long way. What keywords will lead people to your site? And are those keywords winnable? Some article marketing and blog directory submission goes a long way as well. Also, create some Web 2.0 profiles as well, and keep active using them, etc. Its a bit of work, but stick with it, you will do just fine!
