So guys I hope everybody had a good time in 2009. What do you guys think was the most popular search on yahoo in 2009? Last year it was Britney Spears. I think Yahoo search is mostly used by people interested in celebrities, whereas Google for more educational type research. I did some of my own digging and compiled all the results of major search engines Most Popular Searches of 2009 on Google, Yahoo and Bing
how about google it i did http://lmgtfy.info/?q=Yahoo+most+popular+search+of+2009 and found this: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolo...-Big-Brother-most-popular-search-of-2009.html
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolo...-Big-Brother-most-popular-search-of-2009.html Big brother is the most searched term Michael Jackson is fourth
Of course Jackson was the most searched term. It was pretty much the first time that Google News has crashed under the sheer load of queries. TMZ, The LA Times, Wikipedia, AIM and Twitter all crashed. Just 3 days after he died, his death weas listed in top 10 most important news items of the decade. It was a phenomonon. In his death he broke just as many records as he did when he was alive. Strange how 1 man can do that.
Gotta love how MJ dies and its the biggest deal in the world but your everyday person dies and nobody gives a shit...people that never met MJ or any celebrity that died that get all upset over it is completely ridiculous to me. Sure you can make the argument that he was "the best" at what he did but what about the best school teacher, best chef, best janitor, or whatever, why are they less special? It's tragic when anyone dies not just famous people. I'm not saying you guys are like that but the fact that a server like Google and all those others could literally crash because everyone was so consumed by it is beyond me. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this but I really don't care, it's my opinion and it bothers me how everyone is so hung up on the lives and deaths of celebrities.
Everything you said is completely true. I find it somewhat concerning that people seem to value celebrities so much. I don't. However, I was a fan of Jackson's - I had tickets to This Is It and I Googled to see what would become of ticketholders, I watched Smooth Criminal on YouTube etc etc. The thing about Michael's death was that it was Michael Jackson. I doubt anyone else in the world - even if Obama suddenly dropped dead - could have gathered that kind of response. It just shows how many people his music affected. Or those who thought him a child molester were immediately online checking news and posting how they were glad he was dead. And then there were those who didn't really know of Michael or his work and were just reading an article and clicking links until they inadvertantly stumbled across concert footage of Billie Jean or the Thriller movie and suddenly become obsessed with him. Whatever Jacko did in his life - good or bad - it was in the spotlight and he was an immense media presence, and when he died he did the impossible and got bigger. I am going to just link it to the fact that he was a pioneer in music and humanitarian extraordinaire that he has in a small way affected the lives of billions of people.
I completely understand searching for his videos, songs, etc. if you're a fan of his. The thing that just bothers me is that millions of people who never even met him or knew him on a personal level were in tears over it as if their best friend just passed away. And people that weren't really fans of him when he was alive suddenly acted like they cared and loved MJ and needed to hear his music and what not. I hate to call it this, but it was almost like a fad for a short period of time after his death where everyone wanted to just jump on to what everyone else was doing.
