How many submissions is too many?

I am allowing free submissions to my directory and in less than 24 hours, I've have over 500 sites submitted. More than 70% are a PR1 or higher so it shouldn't hurt my PR2 ranking, right?

You have to approve sites based on quality not based on PR.

You must approve them by quality, not PR as don and sunny said. And, you must edit their title, description.

You're right of course. I didn't clarify my question. I am trying to keep the quality high, not allowing for ad farms, or inappropriate items, but let's say I approve 50 sites and they all have good quality, but also have a -1 PR. Does that hurt my PR? Or is my PR based more on the links pointing to me?

No, but the total submitted hit over 1000 in 36 hours. I had to start charging a buck just to stop the SPAM submissions. I'm still allowing free subs with recip links. I'm just going to take my time and make sure I'm only approving quality sites. Thanks for the advice.

Your not kidding. They were coming in so fast, my email box was having issues because it was set to notify me everytime someone made a submission. No more free advertising like that me. LOL

I don't think this should be a problem, the problem sounds like you wont be able to keep up with the incoming links....

As a moderator you need to decide whether the site is worthy to get placed in your directory or not. Of course PR 1 sites wont hurt your ranking, but wont allow spammers.

The approval rating just dropped below 50%. I don't know how some of these sites are showing as a PR3 or PR4, but they are ugly sites with little content. I've also started seeing more redirection sites. My visitor flags from India doubled my visitor count from the US last night.

Indeed Don. The true question is how many low quality submissions / day are too many. High quality can be thousands and will never hurt you.

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I've slowed the approvals to about 15-20 day unless they do a recip link and or buy their way in which gets them in within 3 days. I'm going to keep the $1 charge up for a little until the spammers stop visiting then do a more controlled announcement that they are free again. I have other sites/blogs, etc to keep up with and I can't spend all my time just checking sites, I'd go nutz. Thanks again.

We have over 100 links set up, but I assume the quality of the links is the most important thing.

All of them has approved your site?In my opinion, some of the free directory is hard to approve, and some of them need money.

Maybe it is too many. You should pay more attention to the sites' quality, not only their PR.
