No, but he could decide to sue you if you tried.

Agree with this....my advice is, don't try to offer this domain to Boll Gates, you'll get nothing

Yeah, but if he wants it, it'll cost him $1500 to start a UDRP dispute, I'd settle to sell it to him for $100 :)

Secondly, I've researched this, while he has a trademark on his name, Bill Gates is actually a common name, and he might not have a claim over the domain, so should it be ok for me to resell it?

Sell it for some thousands dollars, or you will have nothing :)

Unless your name is Bill Gates, you have no legitimate claim to the name. Posting that you want to sell it to him is proof of a bad faith registration. Bill Gates doesn't care about spending $1,500 for a UDRP, nor would he care about suing you in court - which I am sure would cause you to go broke and probably be an hours worth of bank interest to Gates. Drop the domain name - it is worthless.

One of the ideas that comes to my mind is to put up a fan blog devoted to Bill Gates, add a link to The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, then make them an offer to purchase your blog.

I agree ... It's just a dream that Bill Gates would buy this domain from you, he have other more important things to do.
And I he would like to get that domain probably he would contact you.
Better sell it to someone else..

Lol, thats was just a joke, I really did not expect to sell it to Bill Gates!

I'm selling it now and I'm trying to see what kind of offers I'll get for it.

Edit: Just looked at BillGates.com and it appears to be owned by someone else, so I think I'm ok!

Bill gates doesnt care of the domain unless ur going to setup a site to insult him or destroy his image.. Bill gates has already retired and busy with charity work i dont think he would sue some1 for a domain (personally)

Microsoft owns over 25K domains, many of them taken from the previous owners with legal action. They have sued a large number of domain squatters - some for $100,000 per domain. Whether or not they would go after any particular domain is unknown, but the possibility makes the domain worthless.

forward the domain to google.com, that will draw some attention ! having in mind rivals microsoft vs. google
or just park it and put google ads on it !!!
