My youtube page at the recent update raised from PR3 to PR8 if I put my sites link as the website would this benift me in anyway as I think youtube is nofollow? Thanks
A quick looksee at my youtube page, which doesn;t have a pagerank unfortunately, shows the website link to be dofollow: http://www.youtube.com/user/theapparatus edit: Even tried it with the nodofollow plugin in firefox. It's not red so it's a good link as far as I can tell.
Thats not true , there are many Google pages which allow follow links , although most of them do not allow anchor text the link juice still helps
i would look at your indexed backlinks before commenting if i was you , i would imagine youtube are using a htaccess no follow external links. If you can find the link back here for your site theapparatus in yahoo site explorer here : http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/search?p=http://drmikessteakdinner.com&fr=sfp&bwm=i then it will be a do follow link , however if the link doesnt show up as a backlink its worthless, is it not ?
not true. Yahoo Siteexplorer showing nofollow links as well. Its true that nofollow can be set on .htaccess and then the real way to check this is to wait till a PR update and to see if it will affect on new PR.
Im not sure about the statement of Site explorer showing nofollow links, care to share any samples ? I genuinely am unsure im not taking the piss. But the other statement of waiting until the next PR update to see if there is an effect is total rubbish you have no way in telling what a certain page would give you , did you mean the next backlink update ? so you can see the backlink showing in webmaster tools ? thats viable
First, I do a lot of domains researches with Yahoo Siteexplorer and found many time a no-follow backlinks there. Second, if this link is really a do-follow it should affect the PR dramatically and directly. so the only way to know that is waiting to the PR update.
Im sorry my friend but you talk absolute jibber jabber, for one if the youtube profile page is PR N/A or PR/2 or something it doesnt give you you any more PR than a normal PR n/a or PR2 site would , the fact that there is no anchor text on the links wont give you any advantage in SERPs, Its plane and simple at most it would just be a backlink from an authority site , however i suspect as ive said in a previous post that its a htaccess nofollow, which means its not indexed and therefore totally useless. If someone has solid proof that can prove the above statement wrong ( which can be proved to others and is not just an opinion ) then im very open to it , but until someone does i will stand by it . So far most things in this thread are purely speculation based on opinions ( mine included ) so some proof would be a turn up for the books for once.
You saying true things. There is a proof that nofollow links don't affect. So if the PR8 ! backlink not affecting the PR of the website for at least PR5 then we can know for sure its a nofollow. Thats all I say. SERP is also way to check that, but a PR4 backlink can do same effect on SERP like PR8 so its harder to know ...
its true, the site might be of high PR but the refering page might be a PR8 and if its no follow its of no use.
nofollowed links do pass some value, and some research on various forums is finding that some pagerank is still being passed from some sites as well. Nofollow is not as black and white as people think, so get that link on the PR8 page.
MAN! Profile link is the only link in youtube which is not nofollow! You can easily check it by watching the source code.
