If i put a place for advertisements into a theme I haev created for people to download on WordPress, how exactly does that work? Do I have to write something special into the code and what does the user have to do to put in an advertisement? Also is there a limit to how many can be on one page?
If you're using ad space such as google adsense or some form PPC ads, then the limits will be based in the ToS for that company. If you're using your own ads, then there is no limit. From what I gather, you've created a theme for others? Or did i misinterperet what you tried to portray? If this is the case, then most wordpress users will only use a theme that has an outbound link in the footer of the page, and so it's highly unlikely that people will use it. To add ad spaces, consider using the custom widget plugin or just add a few lines to the template via the template editor
Thanks, I am designing themes for others to download. Here is an example of what im tlaking about http://wpthemes.blogohblog.net/ See the spaces he allocates for banners, thats what I am asking about
wow, that's a really clean theme. However, I can't see any blocks for advertisements, are you wanting to instert them into the sidebar? And for advertisement blocks, I would recommend <DIV>'s for what you're wanting to do
That isnt my theme. But I am asking how do I implement something like that when I create a theme and all my other questions from before? Thanks for your help
Well if you take a look at http://www.wpdesigner.com/2007/02/19/so-you-want-to-create-wordpress-themes-huh/ and then in the sidebar section, if you create seperate <DIV>'s for each advertisement space you want. Each <DIV> can then be assigned a unique ID and given CSS to match
well no, but if you're looking at including them in the templates for everyone then that's the way to do it. If you want to add some to a current blog, install the "custom widget" plugin and then create some <DIV>'s using that. The custom widget plugin is very useful in numerous situations
Don;t bother. They won't take it. http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/about/ edit: Just in case you haven't seen this: http://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Development_Checklist
So if I add it in the coding nad design, what does the user have to do to use the space for an advertisement? Thanks for all the help
That is for the site though, lots of people advertise on their site. I am just tlaking about puttin in blank spaces for people to put advertisements. Check the link i posted earlier in this thread he just has those blank spaces he isnt advertising for himself
