Got PR2 but amount of indexed pages decreases

Hi and a belated Happy New Year to everyone,
our new online shop (online since mid October) got it's first PR, a PR2.
This was reason to be happy for us but at the same time we noticed the amount of indexed pages has gone rapidly down within a few days.
Before the new rankling Google indexed about 2100 pages out of 2800.
Then it went down to 1900, 1600 and this morning I noticed it again went down to 1450. If this keep going this trend not much will be left by the end of this week!
What's going on? Can someone explain this?
Not only the homepage got ranked a PR2, also several of our product category pages got ranked PR2.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

Sounds good, but for having some good long term profit we still need to work quite a bit on getting way more traffic in the shop.
But an like old expression says: "Rome hasn't been built within one day either" :D

My experience is to give it time. Google are currently doing their quarterly update and we are all noticing wide fluctuations. Keep building backlinks, publishing good content and updating existing content and google will love you for it.

Thank you. For us this is the first time dealing with any quarterly updates Google is doing or us getting ranked by Google. So naturally we got a bit nervous.

Are you using webmaster tools to give you a total indexed pages because I noticed that number can be wrong sometimes. Mine tells me my pages are going down when its really going up or the same indexed.

Yes, I went by what Webmastertool tells me and you are right, that is not correct because if using a search query like site:yourwebsite.com via google, that gives me a totally different result of cached pages. I just checked that out a few minutes ago.
Guess I can sleep peaceful again tonight. :D
    Anyway, thanks for your reply.

get used to it, you never know what Google might do from one day to the next. This is why you want to concentrate on other forms of traffic generation and not just count on Google.

The pages indexed may have gone into the supplementary google index, it depends if they are unique content?

It may not have done though, they may simply be just crawling your site and playing about with the rankings to find where you should be listed.

Give it time before doing anything radical.

I say just wait it out, everything can be fixed in time. It's a pretty weird algorithm and business that Google runs, so you'll have to just be patient
