What is the different between "Title" and "Meta name"

    what is the different between:
    <title> example </title>

    and
    <meta name= content="example"/>

    1-Are they different?

    2-Should the content be the same i.e example for both tags?

    3-Can I ignore the meta name if want to? is it important?

    4-Can I use capital letter words in the meta name?

    Thanks to everyone

    Title tag is used for giving title to the page as you can see in the browser, whenever you open any page, it has some title, if you don't define the title, by default it will "Untitled Page". And meta tags are defined for the Search Engines, so pls don't ingnore, use the meta tags in this manner

    <meta http-equiv="Content-type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" /><meta http-equiv="Expires" content="never" />
    <meta name="keywords" content="Your Keyword, Your Keyword" />
    <meta name="keyphrases" content="Your Key Phrase, Your Key Phrase, Your Key Phrase" />
    <meta name="description" content="Your Description" />

    You people search instead of posting questions. There are no use in using META Tags. Google is not considering META tags now a days for its search process. This was told by Matt Cutt a Senior Developer of Google in his blog.

    I totally agree with that Google does not give importance but, using the meta tags doesn't cost you anything, coz other search engines still do

    I have thought you can add keyphrases within the meta keywords can you do that or is it better to do them separately..

    Also how many words/phrases should I enter in:
    meta keywords
    meta keyphrases
    meta description

    Thank you for your help.

    Title tag is normally used for displaying title at the top of the window and it is also being used for linking any text or giving some important to that content which we have made.It is also important because most of the search engine give them importance too.
    Normally meta tag is being used to provide some more information about the content which you are going to put on you page, which will be used by other companies search engines. Nowadays people use it because many of them have are still indexing meta tag,but Google stopped using on meta tag elements in there search engine.

    The <title> </title> is extremely important from a SEO point of view. In fact, the rule of thumb I use is to use my Number 1 & 2 important keywords (related to the page) in the title. There are no rules; but an ideal length for the Title tag is about 60~70 characters. You can put more, but you dilute the SEO relevance of the keywords the longer your title is.

    Regards,
    Amit

    And again... Give me a prooflink so I could trust your words. Thank you.

    No offense, just wondering if this could be a misleading to get rid of competitors ;)
