OH...... this could be the effect of a spyware attack . when you actually formattedyour OS , only 1 drive would have cleaned. but the spyware in other drives is making this happen.

Solution :- Download Spyware Doctor , update it and scan the whole system and im sure this will be rectified

    Ok,

I think you have a pretty stubborn virus in there. I had that happen to me an year ago, and the virus was called "New Folder.exe" virus. It pretty much screwed my system, and like your case, didn't allow me to access my drives normally.

For your problem, I'd choose Windows Explorer to open the drives in the window that opened for you. Otherwise, right click on the drive and click "Explore". Not "Open", that will not work. This might not be the same virus, but the technique I told you to open the drive usually works when this happens.

Apart from that, I wouldn't recommend any antivirus, I'd simply format and do a clean install. Save only the most important stuff on an external HDD (and then subsequently virus scan the HDD later to get rid of the virus) and then install your OS again. When stuff like this starts to happen, rest assured, only a format works. Otherwise the virus just keeps popping back from the multiple locations its copied itself in.

I think IT IS a virus (opposing above poster) because I have experienced it before. Download Smart Virus Remover. Just google it off (the site is technize dot com I think). It solved the problem for me!

I would personally stay away from these kinds of Antivirus that have no reputation. Instead try something that has been proven. MSE, Avast, AVG, Kaspersky.. something like this would be much better than a no-name brand Antivirus program.

Another option is to boot from a CD like the UBCD, and scan your system from there. That way you'll be able to thoroughly scan your drives without actually booting into your local Windows. This method is usually much more effective than scanning while your system is already running, safe mode or not.

LOL no reputation? It's just not famous, but it has helped a lot of people including me. I have tried every spyware and antivirus but only a SINGLE non-reputed program helped me. So think again.

Notice how my post started with "I would personally"? And I didn't say anything about being famous, only reputable, although admittedly that word is very broad when considering the context. Ease up fella.

Also, judging from the technize website, it seems there are no shortage of folks who are having issues with that program. As I said before, personally I would steer clear.

I had the same problem. It's because you have way too many start-up programs. Go to run->type msconfig-> Close some of the programs. Then re-boot the computer. It will solve your problem. :)

Im using Nod32 AV with Antispyware and has been protecting my PC for years. Before trying any solutions provided above. Why don't you try to install a dependable antivirus, update it and run a full system scan in Safemode with command prompt using their command line scanner.

Glad to hear that, at least you did not go to the tedious process of reformatting your computer
