I have sold a website for a $xxx amount on eBay and received the payment through PayPal which is on hold right now. Right now, PayPal site is saying that the $xxx amount will be on hold for 20 days or the hold will be lifted once the product has been shipped. Since it's a sale of a website what measures should I take? Should I inform the buyer that he/she will have to wait for 20 days til the payment is cleared then they will get the website transferred?

I also stated on the sale page that buyer will have to wait until the payment clears if they use PayPal.

    Thanks for your answers.

Simply call PP and tell them its a digital thing with which you are dealing. :)
Or show them screen shots that the site has been transferred.
Or even your buyer can wait if you have stated it on your sales page.

When I had the 20 day span happen to me Payapl told me if I wanted the hold to go away before the 20 days they could either leave Feedback or the Item be marked as recieved from the tracking number.
But since you did not ship a physical product, just make sure the buyer leaves Feedback than it will be removed.

    You screwed with Paypal.
Try this. Seal an empty envelope and send it to the buyer with a tracking number. Insert the number in your paypal dispute.

why should they wait 3 weeks because of your hold?
i can understand if it is an e-check,but if it was paid instant you should deliver.
a hold just means you can't spend it.if the sale goes smoothly you can spend the money in 20 days.
having someone wait 3 weeks just increases the chances that they file a dispute and you loosing the sale.

i think ebay have a rule for that so buyer and seller have to understand before make trade.

It is a digital product don't worry Paypal has already paid you, and you can deliver the product without worry.

My customer had paid me by e-check. It took just 3 days for PP to confirm it. I wonder if you take 20 days..

Thanks for your answers. I have e-mailed Paypal. I'll just burn the instructions on transferring the domains, script, and the database on a cd and ship it.

This is for buyer and seller safety. Just require the buyer to leave a positive feedback and the funds will be released instant or same day. This is because eBay technically does not support digital items. Also the empty packet with tracking number idea will work. If it's over $250, you need signature (assuming any item or this "purchase"). This would take more days though

If you're selling sites worth more than $500, it might be better to use escrow.

Buyer doesn't want to leave positive feedback to fast track the sale so I am just going to ship the contents in a cd instead. Thanks for the answers. Please close the thread mods.

Just tell the buyer to leave feedback that he received product and simple, your hold gets removed.
